It's weird, I started out as a Silver player. While I was an adamant Red version, with Yellow just for the starters and Mew, in gen 2 I was Silver. And then later on Gold. And also crystal for good measure

I beat Silver. Had a copy of Gold with a dead battery, never played Crystal.

which seems dumb in retrospect... i mean, one version should be enough. lol

I first played Silver and Crystal many, many years ago. Also did another Crystal run a few years back.

My Silver run was memorable due to getting Dunsparce early and it contributing a lot over the span of the game. Return + Dig was pretty useful. Also had a really cool Ampharos with Thunderbolt/punch and Fire Punch. Lugia and a newly caught Ho-Oh were the MVPs for the Red fight...as most of my Pokemon were 20+ levels below Red and couldn't do much.

As for my Crystal run as well as my more recent Crystal run...I remember it for the Dratini you get with Extremespeed that I tried to train in both runs. It was a liability almost the whole game. In the more recent run, it was still a Dragonair at Blue and couldn't KO a Rhydon with a water type move and got KOed in return. Only became a Dragonite just before Red and wasn't helpful there. Pseudolegends mostly are bad until fully evolved I guess. Suicune and a newly caught Lugia were the MVPs for that fight in my original run. In my more recent run, I managed to get Ho-Oh and used it in place of Lugia. It with Suicune were the MVPs to defeat Red.

I do remember that the series's popularity took a dive after Gen 2. By Gen 3, way too many people at my former school at the time would call you "gay" if you liked Pokemon. I remember hearing about someone getting beat up over openly liking the series. As a devout Pokemon fan at the time, I just didn't tell anyone I still loved the series and games.

Yet by Gen 4 (or more specifically HGSS), the series's popularity had recovered as many people unapologetically brought HGSS with them to school to play during lunch or during boring classes, and everyone had the Pokewalker thing on them. I guess the Gen 2 games everyone loved being remade arguably better than before brought people back?

I still have a crystal version cart, but the watch battery inside it died & I'm not skilled enough to take it apart & setup a new one lol

Yeah I remember this. Gen 1 and 2 were popular. Gen 3 came out when my peers were in middle school and they said the same thing about it lol. I skipped Gen 3. Then I got Gen 4 when I was in college and it was great and the series was popular again

I've never *fully* played Silver (as in start to finish) on either the original or SoulSilver, though I have played on it a bit.

Yes, I had Silver and Crystal as a kid, and I have all 3 on my 3DS now. Plus I played both HG and SS, since I imported HG (the only game I've ever imported from Japan to play it before its English launch) and then bought SS in English.

Shocked at how many played all three.

I had 700 hours and a 250 Dex in Gold thanks to owning Silver and all of RBY but I never played Crystal.
