For those who don't know, Freeze-Dry is a special attack introduced in Generation VI. It's an ice-type attack with a base power of 70, accuracy of 100, and pp of 20. Freeze-Dry deals damage and has a 10% chance of freezing the target. Unlike other Ice-type moves, it deals super-effective damage to Water-type Pokmon, even during Inverse Battles or if the user has the Normalize Ability. (Info copy and pasted from Bulbapedia https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Freeze-Dry_(move) )

I think it's a great attack that I wish opened the door to a lot more appropriate interactions. One idea I had many years ago was for a poison type attack called "Corrosion" that dealt super effective damage towards steel types. It is the name of an ability for Salazzle where it could poison steel types.

Overall I think the attack is really cool and I'm glad it is in the game. It having a lower BP than other ice type attacks kind of balances out its very powerful side effect. I wish there were others like it that don't necessarily target resistances but are still thematic. Like Scorched Earth = super effective against ground types (Fire type attack)

I love it. I think it's a really daunting omen of what might be to come.
I can't wait for the electric move that destroys Ground times.

We need more moves like that and Flying Press (A signature move for Hawlucha, it's basically a fighting and flying type move into one)

Stuff like Thousand Arrows is good too, it's like Freeze Dry but it's a ground type attack that can hit Flying types. I always thought Bone Throw should have that effect as well

Ruins the uniqueness and diversity of typing. It should've been a legendary signature move.

Uh that's not the balancing convention for this move. Freeze Dry was made to hit super effective against water types because ice type moves should have been super effective against them in the first place. A electric move hitting ground types for super effective makes no sense period.

I think it's cool that it exists but I wouldn't want too many other moves like it. It's nice as a niche and unique typing chart break but I think it would just lead to chaos and also just be not nearly as interesting if the effect was common on all sorts of attacks

They got abilities that let you punch ghosts who cares if it makes sense. You can KO a non-tangible Gastly with a well placed Low Kick in this game. Gastly has to go to the Pokemon Centre to get his shins repaired after the battle.

All electric's gotta do is aim for the horn.

Um isn't that a weaker ice beam with weaker stats? Why use that over ice beam?

To hit water types. Iirc special ice attackers are using both moves in their moveset

it specifically targets water types for super effective damage, so for example if you were facing a Kingdra (Dragon/Water type) using Ice Beam inflicts neutral damage but using Freeze-Dry inflicts 4x damage

Ah cool. That sounds amazing, I could have really used this in pokemon stadium 2 against kingdra.

So this is in addition to it already being super effective against the usual suspects like ground?

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Noticed this in this topic, why do people be saying that ice should have been super effective against water?

Also if anything water should be super effective against poison not the other way around... at least in cartoons and captain planet, like water usually "washes out the toxins" and stuff.

I do have a few ice types i love, and i also love the idea of moves with unique interactions

Might actually be my favorite move of the franchise.

...also i kinda really want atleast one more johto remake, if only so i can use it against Clairs kingdra

Normally Kingdra doesnt have a lot of weaknesses, but courtesy of freeze drys unique interaction im pretty sure its x4 weak to it.

Pretty casual player, but this would be fun

Dont recall Whitney ever giving me much trouble in Johto... clair on the other hand.
