then the clean-up. it's not self cleaning (actually it would make it easier). we're all doomed having to clean something that has the chance to mangle our hand.

I dunno how yours works but with mine you unplug it, pull out the blade by the long plastic part that goes up its axis, and wash it just like any knife.

Actually, it's hot chocolate because it uses all the ingredients of chocolate. Some varieties of powdered hot cocoa do as well, but the definition of hot cocoa doesn't require it.

In any case, it's not the flavorless watery crap most people think of when you describe hot cocoa.

You could stock up on these around Christmas time and save yourself some effort and mess.

I've tried unchopped chips before and they don't melt properly. They have too low a ratio of surface area to mass. You can leave it all day and you'll still have a chocolate sludge at the bottom because the milk cools faster than the chocolate can melt. Supposing this is some sort of porous chocolate that avoids the issue, they may be worth trying.

The other alternative is to actually heat the milk with the chocolate in it, but this is much harder unless you're ok with it boiling, which honestly ruins it.

Just get the chocolate bars instead. Theyre usually scored so you can break off pieces that you need and can just chop with a knife. Easier cleanup and will melt better than chips.

If you try it, you'll never wonder again. The difference is day and night.

In terms of ingredients, the chocolate is actually chocolate. Cocoa and sugar are only two ingredients of chocolate. The major missing ingredient is a fat.

You could argue that there's fat in the milk, but the proportion isn't right if you're trying to take all of it from that source.

You can buy pre-shredded chocolate, or even mini chocolate chips.
