Right off the bat I knew going in that this show was definitely not gonna be able to fit into tbbt continuity at all, so I had no expectations on that front.

But yeah its Just okay. The overwhelming praise for it is disproportionate to its quality. Feels like these people saw it didn't have a laugh track and automatically associated it with a big brain show or something.

The family is more interesting than Sheldon himself, that much is true. The brother? Surprisingly likable even in his generic role as "dumb jock" type. The sister has some funny lines.

Then you have the grandmother. This woman is pushing 70 and still looks great, I can't even fathom how it's possible but she doing it. And her sharp wit is a highlight of the show.

The mother is endearing and the Dad is actually trying, so yeah its gonna suck when they do try to force them into the bbt continuity with him cheating and stuff.

There is some really good casting on that show. And as a lifelong Texas resident its eery watching that show for the things I remember as a child.

Da brother is much more den a dumb jock. How many 17yo fathers step up da we be does, irl. Da answer, almost none.

This is the only thing I disagree with. The mother is as awful as you'd expect from a hypocritical religious nutjob.

Is the brother supposed to be a jock? He seems more like a 'get rich quick' scheme guy.

I dont remember hearing about Sheldon's dad cheating. Just remember he dies early in sheldons life and that he was so heavy they had to buy an extra large coffin.

Yeah there have been better family shows of this nature like Malcolm in the middle, or everybody hates Chris, but its definitely trying to be a sincere show. And the occasional few things it does do differently are pretty good.

I've seen a few episodes. It's certainly better than bbt. It does have more heart than most sitcoms but still doesn't really do anything special.

There was an episode where a science team wanted to study the twins Missy and Sheldon, and in the interview Missy offhandedly mentions to the scientist how she's always kind of fended for herself since her older brother and dad already bond over football, and her mother and grandma are too busy doting on Sheldon and focusing on his wants/needs. Now the mother can actually see all this because they the interview is being recorded live on the TV and her heart breaks, so she does her best to give her daughter more affection and attention, even if it's as simple as asking her where she wants to eat for dinner and accommodating her request.

The Dad George has an even better bonding moment with Missy in another episode that's straight up a good moment.

I've made the comparison before, the kids are almost like my own siblings and me. The only difference Georgie is the oldest and my brother is the youngest. His personality, his life struggles, are real close to how my brother has lived his life. Missy and Sheldon were much like my sister and I. Missy is pretty sharp and sharp witted like my sister was. I'm not a super genius but I know I had the same interests and "relationships" struggles with people he had. I was a bit "different". That's why I watch it. It puts me back 30 years ago when things were good. It's a comfy blanket I guess

No, he was on da football team, but it is Texas. I would imagine every kid wit even a shred of athleticism is funneled into football. He quit after he started working at Ballards.

Aside from her Baptist everything you enjoy is a sin attitude, she is a loving an attentive mother, Not to forget her relationship wit dat little weasel of a pastor wit da ill-advised mustache.

I know what you mean because that's what it was like for me watching Malcolm in the middle 20 years ago. It's crazy just how similar the brothers are to real life

And then as soon as the episode airs, TBBT gets pulled out of all streaming services and all its syndication deals are cancelled. Since Sheldon being dead would mean TBBT never happened. It would be the single best joke Chuck Lorre ever did.

Again, I've just seen random out of context clips, but I'm inclined to agree she isn't great. Like I saw one this morning where she buys Missy a toy horse and then tells Sheldon they're going to buy him the computer he wanted. Maybe it plays out differently in the episode, but it seemed to me like she was getting Missy a cheap little toy to try and equal buying Sheldon a computer worth at least several hundred bucks.

Like she just generally treats Missy like shit in clips I've seen.

Yeah, Missy is da stereotypical middle child, though technically she is isnt, (she and Sheldon are twins). It doesnt help dat Sheldon is a genius, as kids like dat tend to suck up all da attention.

I've literally never watched clips of young Sheldon on YouTube and it's never been recommended to me. Now after this post and topic, ys shorts started showing up in my feed!

I'm here for nepotism in Hollywood when you have such perfect casting as the mother. I was like holy goddamn does she look like Metcalf, unexpected from a tbbt spinoff, then it turned out she's literally her real life daughter! Pretty awesome imo.

One thing about this show I find... interesting is that it doesn't resolve the problem at the end of the episode. Every episode's plot introduces a problem like most shows, but just when you think they're going to resolve it in some way... the episode ends and the credits roll, and the issue isn't resolved at all. It's this weird feeling I've never seen in a show before, they always try to wrap things up in other shows.

It's hard to explain what I mean but if you've seen the show you'll know.

What do you like most about it?

I think Season 1's a little dry, but I did get a genuine kick out of 2-5, especially watching it with the family.

6 might've been the worst of the batch though. Had some interesting ideas that it rushed through pretty quickly and sat there spinning its wheels for a while on nothing of interest.
