It depends on the dish it is prepared with. Just completely on it's own I would opt for cornbread. Hot cornbread with butter could be practically a meal.

hot water cornbread > biscuits > sweet cornbread > rolls

hard to fuck up biscuits. cornbread is easily fuckupable. rolls are boring.

A three way tie seems appropriate.

If you want amazingly soft, rich cornbread from a box of Jiffy mix, add a 1/3 cup of sour cream to the 1/3 cup of milk. Then add 1/2 cup of packed light brown sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla extract.

I like all three depending on my mood. Usually rolls do the most versatile job.

Ive always preferred proper baked goods to hoecakes (which are basically cornbread cakes for non-southerners) and cornbread.

Fresh baked Rolls. Cornbread really isn't a thing in Eastern Canada. I'd go for the 4th option Toutons, but people outside my province really don't know about them. Its bread dough fried in butter and oil, covered in either molasses or maple syrup.

Biscuits and gravy is the best thing that can be done with any of the three but in most cases Id prefer cornbread.

And I am unrepentant about that. Then again, I only ever have cornbread for New Years alongside black-eyed peas, rice, greens with hamhocks, and fried chicken.

Cornbread is very specific. I can't really have cornbread with anything. A roll I kind of can, but it's mainly a dinner food. While a biscuit I can eat for any meal, breakfast, lunch, or dinner. So I choose biscuit, it's more diverse. Plus there's more types of biscuits. Red Lobster biscuits are fucking dynamite.

This board is sleeping on hot water cornbread (aka fried cornbread) especially. My grandmother is from Louisiana and how she makes them is just: white corn meal, salt, and hot water. Make them into little balls then fry them in oil. You get a salty and savory addition to any meal.
