If I ever went to a restaurant and the server told me "I'm sorry, the chef doesn't allow special orders" I'd laugh my ass off and probably tell the server something like "you'd think a guy who pretends to know a lot about food would understand preferences" as I made my way to the door.

I'd think they were based tbh. Outside of maybe catering for an allergy, eat the food on the menu or find somewhere where choice is literally offered. This isn't Burger King.

When I worked as a chef, if you wanted something that wasnt on the menu for anything other than a medical reason, you could simply fuck off.

You paid a deposit and joined a 6 month waiting list just to do that?

You should first point out that they already have all the ingredients to do what you want, why can't they just do it?

If you want a bespoke meal, hire a private chef.

If you go to a restaurant, pick one with food on the menu that you want to eat.

Isn't a special order for something not on the menu? It's not just a modification.

Sometimes I enter a topic and see clear trolling and I wonder how other people responding seriously aren't seeing it

or if they just don't care

it's wild

Well, maybe so. It was my understanding these asshats will no accept "no salt" or anything.

For real though, is that a real thing? A restaurant where you have to make a deposit?

Sure.

Makes people less likely to cancel their booking, or just not turn up. Nothing pisses off the owners more, as that cover is gone forever, and could have been taken by a paying customer.
