Current Events > Okay, I'm kind of now getting into BG3. *spoilers*

I wasn't super feeling it at first. It was good but it wasn't blowing me away.

And now I've gotten to the Blighted Town, gone into two buildings, and both of them secretly have bigass underground caverns in them. I managed to beat the Phase Spider Matriarch at level three which I'm quite proud of, primarily by burning the dumbass' web when she stood on them, knocking out like forty health from her falling on her ass. My only regret is that I didn't thoroughly explore and spot all of her eggs beforehand, I imagine I could have destroyed them and made things much simpler. But I did have a fun moment where Shadowheart's Spiritual Weapon occupied an entire group of them, killing them one per round.

Then I read an evil necromancy book and jumped down a hole just to see if I could. Pretty sure jumping down it killed me, it kinda froze up, went black, and then I ended up on the title screen, but I've got Feather Fall, so fuck those goblins, I'mma go to the Underdark.

Well, I sure did fuck up that level up on my bard <_<

Gave him the Light cantrip when Shadowheart gets it and took the Actor feat when I already had proficiency in those skills (I thought it would stack).

Guess I'll use Withers after all.

Remember that you can also pickpocket back the 100 gold you pay Withers. He doesn't care.

Unless you are very specifically after something, 9 times out of 10 your level 4 will be ASI and not a feat. That extra point in your primary is almost always better - feats are filler for when your stats are capped.

I more-or-less know how the stats work and I think this would be the one time out of ten? All of my relevant stats were even numbers save for charisma which was a seventeen. So Actor rounded it off quite nicely, plus the seemingly obscene boost to deception (with performance as a bonus) made it quite attractive.

Oh, I also googled to see if Disguise Self was actually useful in this game because I've found it extremely underwhelming so far and apparently it actually works more like Alter Self? I could have been turning into a halfling and squeezing my fat ass into those crevices this whole time.

You didn't really mess up. Multiple Lights are good to have later in the game, and Actor is a great feat to pick if you started off with 17 CHA and even stats everywhere else, as the Deception + Performance stuff is more of a bonus to make up for it not providing +2 to stats of your choice like ASI does. It becomes far less useful if you manage to get a certain item that gives permanent +1 to a stat of your choice, but if you do get it and you want to use it for CHA you can always just respect.

It also let's you get the bonuses from gear that require you to be a certain race. Which aren't common, but there's a few items and weapons that give bonuses to Githyanki that you could use Disguise Self in order to benefit from them (if you aren't giving them to Lae'zel.

I've personally only used Disguise Self once, and that was to get info via Speak with Dead from a dude i had just killed

Nah, I definitely fucked up. I already had expertise in both of those skills, so I'm just missing a skill point. All well, guess I'll just have odd ability scores.

Only played like a half hour tonight to see if I could get into the moon goddess' temple in the Underdark with Disguise Self and I totally could. Shadowheart is probably quite pleased because she blew up their magic gem and stole one of their armors. I also learned that this game is very specific about armor being actual armor, so Gale now gets to wear the Poisoner's Robe with his Bracers of Defense instead of walking around in his underwear like has been for the last six hours of playtime.

I also learned that I should probably stop exploring the Underdark because the three avenues of exploration I've currently found are:

• Garden of petrified drow with a fuck-off spectator
• An ambush from a bullete
• A half dozen fungal zombies

The first two TPK'd me pretty handily, but the spectator did get a surprise round and I was low on resources when I hit the bullete. Maybe if Shovel scouts ahead, the spectator won't surprise me. I can free its statue slaves, so maybe the action economy will even it up. But on the other hand, the spectator oneshot literally everyone it attacked and the bullete's AC is a thousand.

So I dunno, maybe I should go back to doing goblins lol

And honestly, the easiest way to do feats is just Ability Score Increase for everyone at level 4.

Bump the Bard's Charisma to 19, the fighter's Strength to 19, so on.

You can only boost to 20 by feats, so you fill in the last point later.

There's a whole lot of fuckery you can do on top of it (IIRC I had a Sorcerer with 24 Charisma) but that covers it for now.

Basically, assuming I'm understanding correctly a flat boost to your main ability score at 4 isn't sexy but it's mathematically the better choice.

Yeah, that makes sense. The moon goddess' temple led to a "Ruined Temple" which I have to imagine is the one in the goblin camp the Nightsong quest talks about, but I can't get through the backdoor. Didn't get a perception check, so I imagine it's a real door, the switch is just on the other side.

You can go to the Underdark and the other Act 1 maps without affecting anything regarding the grove. Its only once you enter Act 2 that act 1 stuff gets locked out

Yeah, that must be the other side of it. I went in from the Underdark side and it's just a tiny hallway that goes up to the door.

I also like to use it to become a Drow and trick the goblins in the blighted village into believing that you're one of their own.

I just passed a deception check (which is weird because it is actually true) and convinced them that I'm one of the Absolute's chosen.

Oh btw, I also killed the smart ogre. I got a laugh when I saw why he was smart.

Oh, I know.

But he was pretty hyped about eating people so that was a no from me.
