I see this all the time. Family, friend, real life stranger, CE stranger. One of my ex was always on the hunt for the latest & newest dining place right to the point of obsession. And this person I know spends more money on the latest game/gadget than on food/rent/bill/vacation. What about you CE?

Social media is perhaps the biggest culprit, as it often forces you to compare yourself to others who are displaying the most wonderful aspects of their lives. He says it can make you think inward, and develop an unhealthy urge to constantly change yourself to match your own experiences with the ones you see online. Combine this pressure with the modern consumer culture, where marketing tells you that you can always have something better, and its easy to understand the scope of the FOMO epidemic.

The quest for more and more choices in life now creates despair, because people become ever more dissatisfied with what they have when they learn that there is always something else and better around the corner. The tragedy is compounded not just because more choices can lead to increased misery, but also because free choices are often an illusion, since people are actually constrained by numerous objective factors related to social class, race, gender and ethnicity, but are told that they only have themselves to blame when they do not succeed.

I don't use social media whatsoever, but FOMO has gotten me in a few online service-lite games that I regret (War Thunder, Dead By Daylight, Hunt Showdown, Tarkov, etc.) but I've never gone nuts with the spending. But I've definitely riffed a few weeks of premium currency, or gotten a battlepass, only for life to get too busy and I completely miss out anyway.

I legitimately don't really experience FOMO. My main source of entertainment is tv/movies, games, and books and I know there really is no missing out. It will be there when I get to it.

FOMO gets to me in MapleStory, but I have missed out on some significant events in the game over the years that don't bother me.

That's me. I used to hoard $1-$2 games during sales and tbh I've managed to get some very good deals out of it. On the whole however, that was nothing but a waste of time and money. Plus it's not like I'd be able to beat all those games anyway. Not to mention the exhaustion from having to check all those sales constantly >.<

No I've long accepted my lot in life means many things are out of my reach forever. Even if they weren't, I rarely take a great interest in anything. Which came first, my disinterest or my realization that I am limited, I cannot say.

Mind you I still have nothing going for me and don't enjoy my life even if I'm not overextending myself. So people should live how they want even if they want too much. The hard lessons are how you grow and you'll never be happy if you don't try new things.

Agreed although often times there's a fine line to walk here, unless you're one with too much money on hand. Over here health care ain't exactly cheap and one of my friend got health issue. Trouble is they had gone through their savings like hot knife through butter, all for life's pleasure.

Used to do this then they fired back with 'you only live once' argument to rationalize their reckless behavior. I gave up.

I played this mobile gacha once. Pretty generous until you were forced to deal with loot box and crafting. Thing went bad, not to mention it had a really short time period for event and such forcing you to play it constantly or botting your way somehow. It was the epitome of Skinner box lol
