Yeah, you've "played this game" before since you've likely played some sort of 2D Sonic game on the Genesis... which means you've played the superior version of this game. Like... I get the fact that any successful game will have imitators, but wow. I think even a lot of the audio and visual effects are lifted directly from Sonic titles. It appears like you have a life bar so at least they didn't take the Ring mechanic and make that your "life" so to speak... unless they did and the gameplay here didn't show him taking damage.

Data East didn't exactly put their A team on the game either. I looked it up and the Designer seemingly only worked on 9 games total, the programmers credited were on like 9 games combined, the lead composer did like 9 games too. Masaaki Iwasaki, the co-composer, did go on to work at HAL Labs and worked on some Kirby games and stuff, so good for Masaaki! Reviews at the time were "OK" for the most part, and like... the game is competent, sure.

Of course because it hasn't been re-released and I mean... I was a SEGA kid and I never fucking saw this game ever, it is somewhat rare. Pricecharting has it around 46 bucks loose and around 100 dollars complete in box. So if this seems up your alley... I mean, just don't, OK? Just don't.
