Possibly many more consumers prefer self checkout. The walmarts and stuff are adding self checkouts, not less

If I can scan and bag it faster than waiting, yes. If it would take me longer, then I'm fine waiting.

most self checkouts you can very easily do a whole bunch of items as well. Yrs ago maybe most s.c. limited items, a lot less do that now

Self check out keeps double scanning me!!! It wants to rip me off all the time or troll me.

Self checkout for everything with a bar code. I don't like looking up and weighing produce myself. I mean you could easily cheat that but I'd rather not deal with it.

Item limits have been coming back, at least as far as I've seen. Retailers found out that it's much easier to steal stuff with bigger orders.

Indifferent to use either. Largely depends on the length of the line.

I prefer self checkout, unless I have a ton of stuff. Then I'd rather to go a cashier and hopefully a bagger is free to come bag my stuff up.

How many of you go to the human cashier because you have a full basket, then as soon as you start checking out an elderly person with 2 things gets behind you?

I mainly go to Ralph's, which is one of the chains under Kroger. Haven't set foot in a Walmart in like a decade lol.

But yeah, even at Ralph's, there's like 1 bagger per 3 or 4 cashiers. So most of the cashiers ends up doing the bagging themselves

if I'm going grocery shopping, always a cashier. I usually buy beer, so I don't have to wait for the clerk to show them my ID. Also because I'll buy a lot of things, and the self-checkout at my store requires a clerk to come check your stuff if it's more than 20 items.

but if I'm grabbing a few things? almost always self-checkout, but sometimes I'll use the express lane (which has a cashier) in case the self-checkout line is long.

Self-checkout takes too long and there's almost always a problem that I have to have an attendant come and fix anyway.

If I have like, 5 or less items and none of them are by-the-weight produce or gift cards, I'll suffer with self-checkout. For any normal grocery order I'll take it to the human workers. My job is to gather the stuff and then pay for the stuff, everything else is up to them.

The grocery store I go to has no self checkouts so Im used to cashiers and will normally go to them even at places with self checkout. Also, the early days of self checkout when nothing would work right scarred me.

If there's no line, I'll use a cashier.

If there's a line for cashiers and a self checkout open, I'll use that.

Whichever will get me out faster with the least hassle.

Depends. If I have a lot of stuff, or stuff that's a pain at the self-checkout (no barcode, requires weighing items, etc.), and the cashier lines aren't especially long, then I'll go with that, people who scan and bag all day are generally going to be better/faster than I am (I'm especially terrible at bagging stuff, I am basically just smashing stuff into bags without a plan), plus there's two of them doing it. If it's just a couple items or the cashier lines are busy, I'll go self-checkout.

Depends on a buncha factors.

if I just have like 10 items or less, self checkout (which is usually the case).

Ill use a cashier lane if I have a ton of stuff, or I have stuff that I know will require someone to manually check it through (gift cards or alcohol).

more and more stores are really moving to SC though. They are getting much more common. Maybe customers are saying they want them.
