He's been better than Brady since his 2nd season in the league. He's doing stuff Brady could never dream.

If he 3 peats, there's no debate about him being the GOAT.

Mahomes has more natural abilities as a QB than Brady, but tbf to Brady, he's never really been that type of QB. There's a reason Brady was a 6th round pick; coaches want a freak of nature they can mold into a QB, but Brady wasn't really the finest clay in that regard.

Brady has high game IQ, though, and he had really good longevity, which people for some reason like to underrate when they compare young people to Brady. Brady's regression was much kinder to the point that he never really was at a point, even at his old age in the mid-40s, where it straight-up looked like it was over. Compare him to Manning, where, despite Manning winning a SB in his final year, looked so far from his prime that his ring that year felt like everyone else won in spite of Manning's poor performances.

Another thing, which comes with age to an extent, is that people wanted to play with Brady. Gronk came out of retirement to play with Brady, so the charisma and the winning attitude made him someone that could keep having elite players in his old age. Won't value that too high as that's pretty subjective, and unfair to compare a young QB to, but it's still something.

He's on track to in prolly another ten years if Mahomes keeps up at this pace. What really hurts him right now is the head-to-head in the playoffs that they had but honestly, if Mahomes three-peats and then wins another three in the nine years after, he'd be the GOAT in my eyes.

It amazes me a lot of people cling to rings being the most important factor in such a team dependent game.

Most of the usual GOAT candidates in basketball (a less team dependent game than football) have no where near as many rings as Bill Russell (who most people don't even consider as good as his contemporary Wilt Chamberlain who only won 2 rings). Bill Russell is a great player, but you almost never here anyone call him the GOAT.

the NFL spent billons and never proved Brady cheated

they also completely lied about testing the PSI of game balls the next season

He's got the kind of talent that can put him up there for sure, he's a wildfire out there. He adapts well to an evolving situation and usually makes good calls for running it in himself. Heck, during the Super Bowl he walked right in for a first down when the defenders let him off for a second.

He's already 3 super bowls deep into like a ~5 year career. That's pretty crazy.

Rings didn't mean as much to the GOAT debate (at least in football) until Brady entered the league, which coincided with the time the internet took over as the ultimate debate ground for sports. Before that, when most of these discussions were relegated to television and print media, I saw just as much (if not more) GOAT accolades showered on Jim Brown and Lawrence Taylor as I did on Joe Montana.

yeah a player having 3-4 rings is one thing. 7 is on another level.

and we've obviously seen that BB isn't as good without Brady running the system

It's real dumb. Obviously rings matter to an extent but there's at minimum 25 starters on a football team (including special teams). 25. QBs don't play defense, they don't catch the ball (literally in Brady's case...) and they don't block.

For example, Troy Aikman and Patrick Mahomes have the same number of Super Bowl wins. Nobody with a brain is putting those two on the same level.

Yeah I think that's what people miss in the comparison. Tom Brady basically had 3 HoF careers. Mahomes is fantastic, but we've yet to see what he looks like when age starts picking up.

I grew up watching Peyton, Brady, Rodgers, etc and for me no one can top Brady in his prime. Especially when games are on the line. Dude is/was an absolute machine out there. Like a sniper, not very exciting to watch but ridiculously poised under pressure. 28-3 was the most insane shit I've seen live in a sports game.

Have you seen Mahomes's record when trailing by multiple scores in the playoffs? 9-2. Shit's insane.

He's certainly been striking the iron while it's hot and playing incredibly well, and I'm sure he'll be a HoF / Top #3 QB in history given more time. Maybe even higher, who knows? But there's a lot of recency bias, and people love to hate on Brady.

Mahomes has lost twice in the playoffs, two of them are Brady.

He has the same amount of NFC championship wins as Aaron Rodgers.

He's played in more Superbowls than wildcard games.

He never snapped a football when out of playoff contention. The last game he did, he won his college championship.

Tom Brady was 251-84 in his career while trailing by 10 points or more.

Just some random absurd facts.

mahomes isn't the same kind of qb as vick. mahomes can certainly scramble, but he is a pass first guy who is capable of making the tightest window throws. mahomes has the arm talent and football iq that is basically only rivaled by alltime guys like brady/peyton/montana and he is already ahead of peyton and montana alltime at just 28 years old

Brady is still better all time, but Mahomes is farther ahead than where Brady was at at the same age. Mahomes certainly has the potential to become the GOAT NFL player.
