Like honest to goodness actually looked forward to eating 90% of the time. There was a few duds in the rotation like liver night but most of the time it was legitimately good. Well you choose the rate you want to do so everyone who is a MS (Mess Specialist) chose that job. The food when I was in nuclear power school on land was really really good. It was like a dining experience. The food in boot camp wasnt as good but youre cooking for mass numbers of thousands and thousands of people. It was still perfectly decent but understandably not as good. The food on my ship was excellent but I was on a destroyer with like 330 people. Much easier to cook for than say an aircraft carrier with 5,000 people.
