I'm thinking of applying for the general election.

What is it like?

I do it almost every election day. It's a long day and you don't get paid very well, but that's not why you do it anyway. You get barely trained and learn on the job. Depending on your voting location it could be busy or it could be chill. You develop a sort of combat brotherhood with the people that you work with, most of whom are regular poll workers.

It's really not that hard and it helps preserve a little bit of my faith in the democratic process since you'll see firsthand just how impossible voter fraud actually is, individually or collectively. It's also an easy way to give back to society.

My father, until he was physically unable. He never talked much about it, but he enjoyed doing it.
