I really hope that the MGEX Strike freedom is as amazing as everyone makes it out to be. I was choosing between that, or the RG Banshee norn and the MG Full armor Ver. Ka. Or the MG Hi-Nu gundam. (I just finished building the RG Nu gindam though, so I wanted something different)

Thoughts? Has anyone ever made the MGEX Strike freedom or the MG Eclipse? I've heard great things about both of them.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/7/7bc46e1a.jpg

I also got some stuff to get into scribing. Sadly USA gundam store didn't have any good chisels in stock, so I had to pay full price. I'm also gonna get some paints soon to really get back into gunpla.

Rate my haul out of 10? I'll post pictures when I get all of it and after building if anyone is interested.

Super glue is an adhesive that bonds mechanically. Tamiya extra thin cement is a solvent that melts/softens the plastic to fuse it together.

Still want the Nu Gundam and the Turn-A and maybe Aerial too

@ImAMarvel

I just checked my Email and they're having a weekend sale for 15% off apparently. Coupon code is Move 15.

TC does't have glues in that image? There's 2 varnishes, a panel line liquid and a decal softener.

Anyways, haven't build either the MG Eclipse or the MGEX Strike Freedom, but I'm pretty sure the Eclipse is based on the Freedom 2.0 and that kit is awesome.

Also, disregard spray cans, embrace air bushing :3

Oh.

You mean the Mr. Mark setter?

Mr. Mark setter is an adhesive for decals that makes them stick better to plastic. Mr. Mark Softer softens the decals up so they conform better to curved surfaces.

Beyond that, if you mean the top coat, it's to protect the paint, give the model a nice Finish, provide a better surface for panel lining fluid and decals to stick onto, and so on.

I don't have the MGEX, just the base MG but that one looks f'n awesome. The MG Strike Freedom was fun as f to build so I'm am pretty sure the MGEX will be fun too. But I think you are making a mistake with the Gloss top coat. I'd go matte with the exception of the gold pieces.

Nice to know!

The gloss topcoat is for in-between painting, panel lining, and putting decals on. You can't see it in that picture, but I got a can of flat matte topcoat in the first picture to finish with.

I was looking at those.

I think I'm going to get those and the stand for the funnels after I build it. I've seen some pictures on Reddit and they look great together!

Bump for more ratings.

Also, anyone have any suggestions for starting my journey into panel lining and painting?

I've been looking at these commissions on reddit and I really hope I can be this good (if not better) someday:

For panel lining, if you wanna use the Tamiya stuff you gotta gloss varnish the model first. If you wanna do it on bare plastic use acrylic washes or the pour type Gundam panel liners.

If you want to get into painting, I suggest investing in an airbrush and an air compressor. A good airbrush is more important than an expensive compressor.

He got some acrylic in that first pic.

Panel lining was a kind of experiment for me though. At first, I tried using Gundam markers, usually black. Didn't really like the results of it. Tried air brushing the panel lines, hated that even more. Then I went with the dab method with the dark gray and rust brown panel liner mixed with a little more alcohol mixed in. I believe that gives a softer visual than black would.

If you want to air brush and you never used one, I would practice on cheap models first. Get a feel with using the brush. Again, as LordFarquad mentioned, the airbrush is more important than the compressor. Start out cheap and work your way up to a nice double-action air brush.

By panel lining, I meant scribing my own lines. I already panel line all of my kits, but so far I haven't really done much other than using panel lining fluid or a fine tip marker. I bought some chisels to start making my own panel lines.

I have an airbrush, but the only place in my house where the ventilation is good enough to paint at the moment is on my porch and it's winter. So I'm gonna mess around with hand painting until I can start getting out there here and there to paint on the warmer days.

I've also heard good things about rattle cans for beginners but I don't know if that's worth it since I already have an airbrush.

Nice. One day I'm going to try a MG. I prefer the smaller HGs and RGs. I still use pens for panel lining. I'm no good with brushes. It's why I don't paint much even if I really want to because I can't get a sprayer and compressor. I hate how even just looking at the ink hard enough makes it fade. I've wanted to try scribing some old HGs to make them pop more, but I worry I'm going to mess it up or break something.

You'll never know of you don't try! Just get some decent chisels, some scribing tape, and practice on a kit you don't care about. You could get a 5-10 dollar entry grade kit to practice on too.

There are lots of YouTube videos on it and everything.
