For those who dont want to watch the quick video, death food prices have gone up while grocery store prices have gone down.

People are not eating death food as much anymore, which has caused those chains to resort to desperate measures (apps, promotions, etc.). More and more people are eating food from home.

The only reason people ever went to mcdonalds or other crappy fast food was cause it was cheap and fast, not cause it tastes great. Now it is expensive and still tastes bad, why would anyone keep going?

It has gotten stupid expensive. If it's gonna cost 25 bucks to feed two people I'd rather not. It being cheap used to be the draw, it's not good enough to justify premium prices

To anyone who would like fast food and thinks its getting too expensive, I would suggest looking into apps from your favorite places.

Often times they offer deals, promotions, and a points system.

McDonalds and Wendys are particularly good. Ive gotten free McGriddles from there with no purchase necessary.

Its crazy when you think about.

You can go to Target and grab some kind of ground protein for like 4-5 dollars (like beef, chicken, pork, tofu), noodles for like 1 dollar a box, and jarred sauce for 1 dollar something cents. The portion of that spaghetti would be large enough to make several meals.

Or you can go to McDonalds and pay 12-14 dollars for a meal that will last you just once.

And it's rarely very fast anymore either bc the restaurants are understaffed. The last few times I've been to mcd's it took like 20 mins to get my food.

McDonalds is a non-starter for me. Wendy's still has the biggie bag which is great value and Burger King has plenty of coupons in their app at all times. Those are the only two that are needed from the traditional fast food chains.

I also just went to the grocery store for drinks and ice cream. Got two jugs of Snapple, 5 body armour drinks, and two pints of ice cream for 20 bucks. At Mickey-D's, 20 bucks gets you a big mac, fries, and a drink. Thats about it. It's absurd.

Some are better than others. I agree not all fast food apps offer great deals. I dont tend to eat at those places. Though I will say, sometimes even the apps with bad deals can have a good offer now and then.

While I agree, it's almost like you're missing the convenience factor. People that have time to cook will generally go the Target route you mentioned. People that have 4 kids and 3 basketball games in a night can't always do that.

$7 is too expensive for me still. Mind you I don't eat fast food often either especially now with the prices but there are ways to get ready made food for $5 or less still. Places like McDonald's were always too expensive for what they offer unless you went back to the days when grandpa could afford a house.

Frozen meals at the grocery are $3 and are better food than a lot of fast food places. The only "cheap" fast food anymore is Taco Bell value menu, even that went up. But at least you can eat your fill for like $6 still - if you don't hate the food.

there's no dodging rising prices when wages go up = everything else goes up to compensate for it.

stopping going to my favorite fast food place taco bell after the pandemic started. back then the price of a beef burrito wasn't more than 1.30$. it's 2.50$ now for a small beef burrito.

i can still have my burrito's. just once a week if i buy the ingredients i like and cook with it (less than 5-6$ for 3 big burrito's).
(3$ for bean and rice only = 2 big burritos).

Also I don't think the grocery comparison is a great one in the first place. Cooking for yourself takes time, skill, appliances/utensils... it's not really that similar to buying fastfood other than that you end up fed at the end. A better comparison would be other restuarants. Which I have to say I feel liek they're not doing great in that department either. I can think of plenty of places near me that serve healthier, tastier food for comparable prices

God I'd love to live where you guys live where grocery prices are going down.... Last month I damn near shit myself at the 23 CAD for a pack of 4 chicken breasts, compared to early last year when you could get them for 15 CAD. A single red onion where I live is 3 dollars, whereas last year it was 2 bucks.

Fast food got even more expensive, my regular combo which would cost around 14 bucks went up to over 20 dollars this year. Honestly, can't wait to move out of this province... its way too expensive to live here based on the average salary of people who live here. Sure it isn't as expensive as the bigger cities, but 40k/y shouldn't be the bare minimum to live here.
