Pets, sure. Gorillas chimps, dolphins, deer, birds, sure.

But what about animals that don't have brains like jellyfish or sponges? Even microbes?

Lots of people think plants and trees have souls, I can like that idea. But what about bacteria? Viruses?

Animals and plants have been known since prehistoric times but microbes have only been known about since more recent times. They move and do things.

Some religions believe all living things have a soul. Even plants. I am inclined to agree on theory. I don't actually believe in souls anymore. But I think if they do exist, then everyone has one. The soul is probably like the life force. If you don't have a soul you would be dead maybe. I don't know. The idea of only humans having souls has always sounded entirely idiotic to me

I like when Christians tell me I can go to heaven but that animals don't have souls and don't go to heaven

That doesn't sound much like paradise to me
