Did the card company approve it? Mainly talking about times when it wasn't even absolutely certain that you should not have been charged. I know that for instance, if you dispute a PSN charge then they won't let you use that PSN I.d. for anything anymore

Just once that I remember where I got double charged and I took it up with the store/merchant and they reversed it themselves instead of me having to go to the bank.

I disputed a kickboxing gym charge when a scummy gym wouldn't let me cancel like they said I could. Guy at signup said I could cancel after this date. First person I emailed said I could cancel. For some reason, another manager replied and said I wasn't able to cancel due to the contract. My credit card refunded all of the payments including ones from before I wanted to cancel. >_> I told them over the phone which ones I needed refunded, but they decided to refund even more lol.

How long until you told them? Like over a few days, they might not. Your credit score went down didn't it? You were lucky, many people, they see it's not their money and go absolutely insane

Doesn't this make you credit score go down even a small amount? Yeah I guess in many cases card is better, if cash, you have no recourse

I told them the day after the charge occurred, since thats when I first noticed it. I had no issues with my credit score, and they closed that card and mailed me a new one. After 24 hours it was as if nothing ever happened.
Whos going insane here??

Doesn't affect your credit at all. I'll quote a post I made from another topic regarding credit.

I meant, the stealers of the card go insane. What did you think I meant?

A few months ago some mother****er dropped a $1900 utility charge on my card. I called Chase and they took out the charge in addition to mailing out a brand new card.

I'm a big spender so I guess I'm not too surprised that Chase never questioned the legitimacy of the transaction.

Yes. But it was the CC company that contacted me for "suspicious behavior" on my card, as I rarely use it for purchases over $200.

It was a $500+ charge from some random clothing website.

One time I had a bunch of orders from a vegan chocolate company charged on my debit card randomly?? Luckily I get a text anytime my card is charged so I was able to call within a minute of the charge happening and got it reversed. I cant think how anybody would have gotten my card except for maybe a skimmer

So far no, my bank has been pretty good at spotting fraudulent charges, canceling and alerting me asap.

Thats why Navy fed will always be my sub bank.

No, but my bank has been pretty spot-on with fraud protection when someone tried to use my debit card (somehow) at a gas station for $80

He's right. I never carry a balance either and also have a score in the 800s. I figured out how to game the system a few years ago and went from 650 (dropped from 710 when I opened a medical credit card to get basically LASIK) to 800ish. Highest I've been at was 817 or so. Things that matter for your credit score are:

* average age of all accounts (so opening a new account lowers your average age which brings down your score a little; once I pay off my last student loan, my credit score will actually drop since it's one of my oldest accounts)
* Amount of total credit (receiving a credit line increase on your cards will boost your score)
* Amount of accounts (more accounts is better)
* Credit card utilization (the lower the better with 0% being the best. If I forgot to pay it off completely or get a charge right before the statement date and have something like a $20 statement fee when the previous was 0, my score drops a little)
* Collections (this hurts your score a lot. I found out I had like $90 in collections from some medical bill I wasn't aware about years ago...paid it off and my score went up like 10-15 points...I'm sure it'd be even more for people with higher debts)
* Hard checks (the more hard checks, the more they hurt your score. I think they typically take 2 years to get off your record. Each check would drop my score by 1-2 points. I got 5 checks at once the first time I bought a car)

I'm sure there are more, but that's the gist of it.

Here is what you need to know about your credit score. This was in response to someone thinking you needed to carry a balance to your statement as opposed to having a statement of 0 balance.

This is exactly why I have my credit card send me phone notifications for every transaction. I'd know right away if my card was compromised.

That was actually me who thought that carrying a small balance helped my credit score. I was glad that someone clued me in on that being false.
In any case, my score is at 825, so I'm definitely doing something right.

none of you have ever had a dispute declined? Prob the vast majority and stuff, like visa, reverses the charge..

yeah sony does do that. Wonder if MS and nintendo does that. Most of you think sony is wrong to do that,? even if totally legitimate they will do it.

I once saw a charge where $200 went to a company that literally didn't exist.

This was easily disputed.
