I know a lot of hipsters have flocked to this game in recent years because it was basically overlooked. But I played it back in the day so I'm an OG talking about how awesome the game is. The thrill of playing the first 4 levels then realizing they created an entirely new game based around the concept was mind blowing. Total rug-pull.

I like that the final boss fight has him going full King Kong.

By the same token, Bowser went Godzilla a year later in Yoshi's Island.

Playing it at the time of release on the Super GB was truly a treat at the time. There wasnt anything else like it.

Actually just had to replace the battery in my copy. So then that lasted what? 30 years? Give or take, depending on how long ago the battery actually died.

It's an amazing game.

• Pretty long by Gameboy standards
• Has a Super Gameboy color profile that works wonderfully on the GBC/GBA
• The most freedom of movement in a Mario game until 64

It's really good. It does a great job of teaching you the mechanics in a relatively low stress way and then gradually ramping up the complexity of the levels.

It gets ridiculously hard by the end.

It's fantastic, and I hate that Mario vs Donkey Kong 1 was the only real follow up.
Hoping that the remake is successful so that they make more.

I remember borrowing it from my friend after it came out. He was gushing about it and I was thinking "isn't it just Donkey Kong on the arcade?", and intended to just play it for a few minutes.

I think I spent an hour or two in that sitting.

I had that game as a kid. I never beat it, but it was a lot of fun.

There's four. Three Donkey Kong Lands, and one called Donkey Kong that gets referred to as Donkey Kong '94.

I only had Land 3 as a kid and I can understand someone not liking the Land games as the hardware wasn't quite able to properly handle Donkey Kong Country-level games.

GameBoy Color got a Donkey Kong Country port as well, using Land assets to make a closer Country port.
