Tragically 65 years ago, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and "The Big Bopper" J. P. Richardson along with, pilot, Roger Peterson died in a plane crash.

There is a Bar in town that claims the song was written there.
And while it is true that Don McLean came to town, and went to that bar. In fact, My parents helped set up one of his show...at a different spot, Cafe Lena.

But after a deep dive he has said, he did not write it at the bar. ((Brush it up, perhaps, but written there))
The Bar being The Tin & Lint.

There is still a little plaque that mentions it at a booth just the same.
