The idea seems to be that police would like to have AI go through old body cam footage looking for crime. I personally don't like this at all. The ideal use of body cam footage is to provide transparency for both cops and the public during interactions. Saving all that footage and then later going on a fishing expedition to find more crime using error-prone technology seems to once again shift the balance of power back in favor of police, and in my view they already have too much power.

But what do you think?

Just more excuses for them to brutalize non-white people.

Will it be used to provide evidence of crimes committed by police?

Good idea on paper but you already know they will use it to get a false positive but say "well the ai found it so..."

I don't have a problem with it in theory but given how often my security cameras warn me about a shadow moving on my porch I don't exactly have much faith in AI examining video footage for things that aren't blatantly obvious.
