The meta is "Pull newest unit and see how many months that'll keep you going. For PvE content, you mostly don't need all that much. For pvp, that depends on how much suffering you're willing to put up with. Arena being the least painful and summoner duels being tryhard central.

Honestly not sure who to recommend besides f2p* godtank Marni because I'm very much a "Use your favorites and just vibe" player. How useful certain grail units are will depend on what you're trying to do. Sadly the guaranteed spark is only for Feh Pass, but most of the units would go a long way for a new account, especially Red. Maybe not so much Blue.

(I still very much use the Morph versions of the Reed Brothers)

You can put units you don't use often in your reserve barracks. Units you don't need at all can be turned into combat manuals. If you don't who is good or not, try and keep one copy of each 5* unit and research them as you go along. You can sort by "Version" to check roughly when a unit was released and generally older units are bad or require specialize attention to be good.

But yeah, teambuilding is largely based on game mode and playstyle. I seldom bother with full on tanks, preferring to just kill everything. Any unit that can help buff up the party/debuff the enemy can function as a supportive unit while still chipping in on damage. Though of course some are more focused support units, like dancers.

Also, Jehanna lance is OP. So is the dagger but that's not in the grail pool.

Would have been hilarious if they expected us to be content with FEdel's "refine" by relegating her to refine jail and giving her that new and shiny arcane from the character bent on killing her. Realistically, her refine isn't gonna save her

I'm just glad I pulled Dedue for Dedue, I don't really use beast units regardless. People who did got absolutely baited though, and the banner hasn't even gone away yet. Crazy.
