I keep thinking about this game and now I'm playing it.
Mostly thinking about the DLCs, what's some fun stuff I could do in the main game?

I'm gonna play as my usual bumper sword super slam guy.

It's DLC-related, but you could go after the Blackjack Duster in Lonesome Road (which requires certain limitations in how you play the main game up to that point).

I could make bad decisions on purpose to feign 1 int though.

Is that one of the things in the case Ulysses leaves at the end?
Also it sounds like something to do with luck and I have 1 luck.

It's basically a dedicated playthough in which you prioritize finishing Lonesome Road as early as possible, before ever visiting the Strip for the first time; this allows you to get the rare Blackjack version of the Courier Duster, and nuke both the Long 15 and Dry Wells (and get the rewards for both) without any permanent faction rep loss.

But you're right, the Blackjack Duster won't be all that valuable if you're *shudders at the mere thought of it* doing a low-LCK build in NV.

LOL I just started a new run on Monday. Decided to go all evil for the first time. Tried previously but losing Boone always made me end up dick slurping for the NCR. Put a bullet between Boones eyes this time so no going back now muahahaha.

Oh yeah I've done this before, but I probably didn't wear it because the only time I swear the dusters is when I'm wearing those + a power armor helmet to cosplay the Shockmaster.
Actually I might as well run straight there and fish for a Blade of the West drop.

I tried this, and I wouldn't. I think some explosive weapons are bugged and do less damage. Use a mod if you want this build.

Also, as for builds I like getting the two shotgun perks and making a mid range gun build.

Some of the explosives have weird rules.
There have been loads of times over the years where I throw a pulse or plasma grenade, the enemy's in the blast radius and for some reason it just doesn't count as a hit.

Bethesda-framework games are terrible with AoE damage in general. Can't tell you the number of times a chain-link fence or slight elevation in terrain have completely protected an enemy from a mini-nuke blast (unsurprisingly the Player Character never gets that lucky).

I love explosives in NV, but always as a secondary combat choice.

Come to think of it, I might've wound up doing melee+explosives after awhile for aforementioned reasons. That way, you can have a little variance, plus use that melee weapon that turns corpses into bombs.

Got Blade of the BEST.
Got the Marked Man armor that says NO PARKING ANY TIME on both sides.
Got loads of caps from the commissary.
Got Eduardo and one of his upgrades.

All the Shen Gong Wu are assembled. I basically already win.

Okay but Oliver Swanick wins the lottery and is still unafraid to tempt fate and antagonise the local giant mutant scorpions.

Meanwhile malc is frightened of bottle caps and allen marks.

I enjoyed my time with New Vegas, but it is the only game I ever quit before the end due to bugs. And I had an Atari 2600, which shows you how long I have been gaming

There were SO many bugs, including one where the LV strip would crash if I wasnt wearing a certain hat. It just got to be too much.

Such a shame, because the game had some great quests and storytelling.

My player is talking with Ulysses about Legion and NCR even though I don't think he's supposed to know what they are.
They really chose ahead of time who you were playing as with this one.
Like where's the option that just reads "SHUT UP, FUCKER" every time he tries to get all figurative about symbols.

Armor has + melee stats
His weapon is... a gun.

Completed Lonesome Road, went in a lv2. Emerged a lv12 with 51k caps, melee armor, blade of the best and the +1 luck duster with a 21 on it.

...And then Malcolm Holmes immediately runs up the hill, ignoring the two mushroom clouds or how unapproachable I suddenly look, because he really wants to tell me about bottle caps.

I always feel really hesitant to get rid of Red Glare. They give you so many free rockets with it.
I could upgrade the thing and start levelling explosives. But that reload time sucks any way you slice it.
Bumper swords don't reload.

I've tried so hard over the years to like the Red Glare and make it work. But it's just too underpowered to be worthwhile.

The plain ol' grenade rifle with a long barrel mod (or any of its unique variants with the same capabilities) remains the best all-around explosive weapon in the game imo.

The whole point of Red Glare is to use the one glitch to replace a better guns' fire rate and make that gun OP. It's just a meme otherwise.

Cleared out every scorpion.
Stomped all the ants.
Blowed all jackal gang members to smitheroons.

The desert is Oliver Swanick's for the taking.

Destroyed everything in Nipton for good measure. Oliver Swanick is the only living thing within a few miles.

Two reasons right now.
Reason 1, "If you're an enemy of the NCR, you're an enemy of mine. Get out of my sight."
Reason 2, the subsequent THUNK sound the sneak attack crit made.

The others though? Maybe.

Still not entirely sure what my alignment is.
So far I'm dressed like a Marked Man and am being nice to the Followers and Westside. Picked up Gannon easily thanks to that.

I don't think this guy would care about many of the quests. Seems more like a guy with a list of strong NPCs to destroy. I don't think Mr House would like him and I like the imagine the more he levels, the simpler his speech becomes so I can't imagine him scheming with Yes-Man by this point.
Unless something could change that? Now that I think about it, Old World Blues lets you rebuild your character from scratch. I should make up a reason to actually use that some time.

It lets you reassign traits once, which is basically just letting you rebuild from scratch.

I remember the traits now but does it handle SPECIAL?

No.

Alright, that's where I was confused, thought I missed something.

Naw, you got it. It's just that you can max out your SPECIAL stats if you want to so being able to rebuild them means a little bit less (though it essentially requires that you know how to max them from the get go as it requires a pretty specific layout for most of the stats).

All of my characters end up as feral EXP vampires, sprinting giddily into any Cazador nest they pass.

I guess charges anything that moves is a positive personality trait in this world.

Slayer perk procured. That's usually the last piece to make a character I'm happy with. Unless I wanna do all the chem boost + Implant GRX shit and unlock the VJ time powers.

Did Honest Hearts. Powered through the text. Honestly I just wanted to run around in the wild with a big sword. Last two are Dead Money and OWB.

I really like OWB but I get burned out if I play the game too much and end up sitting through the long ass opening/ending cutscenes.
Dead Money is a lot of talking and acting involved that I just don't think this character is up to. I could do that thing where you craft Fist of Rawr in the level though.

Is Royez the strongest humanoid NPC in the game?
That's some pretty great armor he has. Plasma Caster + highly irradiated environment + minions everywhere doesn't hurt either.

I don't remember Gaius Magnus being all that by comparison.

This is my favorite Fallout!

Checked in on Oliver Swanick.
He is still alive in the desert, I talked to him while he was surveying his kingdom and he asked me what I needed. Thoughtful.
He has swapped his costume out for the shirtless looking one. Makes sense since he's left the Powder Ganger life behind.

I've killed 4/5 legendary creatures so I'm almost as respect-worthy as him.

He's still reveling in winning the lottery, is he?
