NSMB: You have to beat a boss after like 5 levels to save your game because it was like that in a game released more than 2 decades ago
(I know you can use the suspension feature but it really isn't that safe)

Yes, NSMB, NSMB Wii, NSMB2 and NSMBU/Deluxe.

i loved wonder and was thinking of picking up nsmbu deluxe next but now i am hesitant <_< i still don't fully remember/understand how the system works, like do you need X amount of coins or whatever every time you want to save or just when you open the new point or what?

I'm almost totally sure that at least NSMBU lets you quicksave and exit at any level. The full save is to make lives and 'game over' meaningful. That said, I have no idea what happens if you game over in Wonder.

I got 100% in Wonder when it released and had completely forgotten it existed at all until seeing this topic, not really a great sign.

From memory it boots you back to the main menu after you save and deletes it when you load it. Can't remember if there are further limits.

The point is making you redo levels if you get a game over. It's weird.
