People always want things to be more certain than they actually are. You get half your DNA from your mom and half from your dad, but go back another generation and your DNA parent's bodies didn't perfectly split the contributions from the grandparents. Go back thousands of years, if a gene is prevalent in two different areas then how the fuck would you know which one yours originated from?
