dairy. :v Well, no more... I'm tired of being a slave to big cow. It's over, I'm taking back my life starting today. I'm quitting the stuff for good. I'm about to become that person that asks if something has dairy in it at every outing.

It might be the source of your problems too, let's research:

no... I'm actually serious. :v I'm giving up dairy starting today. I'm gonna use this thread as a sort of log to track my progress. I wanna see if my sinus issues and inflammation and stuff get better by cutting out the cow.

so this is day 1, but I had coffee creamer with dairy in it this morning so tomorrow will be the actual first "no dairy" day.

Waste of money. Just finish off the creamer first then start.

I quit eating dairy and in a couple of weeks felt better than I ever had in my life. I used to have this unpleasant pressure in my abdomen all the time. Not gas or bloating or anything like that, just this heavy fullness. That's how I always felt and figured everyone did as well but lived with it. (That is how I approached a lot of my physical ailments, btw)

After like six weeks with no dairy, I had been eating chips I didn't know were contaminated with it (no one needs dairy in lime flavored tortilla chips!) and the feeling came back, persisting even after the acute food poisoning-like effects passed. It took a few days until I was over all of it. It was so much more agonizing being aware of it and free from it only to feel it again. I have a lot of reasons not to consume dairy but even if there were no other ones, there's no way in hell I'll ever consume it again for this reason alone.

I tend to avoid the lab-fermented vegan dairy as well because I don't know if it's a protein allergy or severe lactose intolerance, though the few times I had it didn't cause any serious issues. Perhaps it's the dose for my particular issue.

Anyway, doesn't hurt to try giving it up. I was so heavily indoctrinated into consuming dairy that I overlooked a lot to keep consuming it. There are also plenty of options for milk out there now, so there's lots of fun to be had experimenting.

I actually have that same sort of bloated heavy feeling you describe too, and it's just always been a thing. Just a heavy sluggish feeling for hours after I eat. The only time I don't get it is when I eat really simple stuff. I just assumed it was a normal thing too. :v So maybe it really has been the dairy all along.

The pressure I experienced was constant but yeah, post-meal was always the worst. Family puts a crapload of cheese on everything, too.

It doesn't hurt to go without it, just to find out for sure. I recommend a month so you can be sure your gut has acclimated to the changes. You'll also want to find a nutritionally adequate alternative if you rely on dairy to meet your necessary intake of key nutrients.

I wouldn't rule it out, but I do know people IRL who are exactly as gullible as TC comes off as.

Fill out a survey from a grocery store magazine or website, conclude x or y is the cause of all their problems, then make radical lifestyle and dietary choices with no medical backing. They feel great and gush about how wonderful life is because self delusion is a powerful thing, then a few weeks later they're back to where they started plus the additional hassle of following pointless dietary restrictions. They return to their previously normal routine after a few more months when they realize it was all bunk, until their next panacea comes along.

Best case scenario we have situations like TC where the solution is a modest dietary restriction. Other times some quack has sold them on their latest nostrum and they're sinking hundreds of dollars into junk that's hopefully no worse than harmless.

soy milk has almost as much protein as cow milk. (7g in soy vs 8g in dairy). you can also buy plant milks with added protein.

my biggest concern in regards to cheese is what to replace it with on pizza, since I dont think any of the pizza chains offer a dairy free cheese option or anything. Outside of on pizza I dont think Ill miss cheese that much really.

yea, I know thats a thing, but I feel like itd be better to just cut it out than take a pill for it. :v since I think its causing issues besides just having the craps for me. I dont think lactaid or whatever would fix all that.

pizza is the food i miss the most, for sure. not sure about national chains, but there are numerous pizza places around me that offer plant-based cheese. some are okay, some are terrible.

one local spot makes their own 'cashew ricotta' that i hear is REALLY good, but i haven't tried it yet.

A few well-aged and very dry cheeses, like parmesano reggiano, don't actually have any lactose left in them, and so are perfectly safe for tc and the like.
