They have to kind of ignore it in the actual story and they rarely explain it and how good it is outside of gameplay.

Like youd have armies stalemating with an equal army of priests/white mages negating all the damage.

I feel like magic users who could heal you to full health would be rare commodities, and that there would be an unequal distribution of them

Healing magic is usually resource heavy and has limits. Maybe your player character can carry 75 potions in his pockets, freeze time to mix reagents and ingredients in their inventory, and choke down magical scaly bits while mid-sword swing but the cinematic character is usually hampered by the fact that they're still somewhat grounded in some sort of reality that doesn't benefit from the existence of gameplay mechanics.

They dont specify but from my understanding they can heal you so long as its not fatal and or they cant seem to restore limbs either.

So heavy knights just getting beat to shit and constantly healed would be the meta i guess...

it Doesnt make sense in gameplay either; why couldnt you resurrect a enemy to kill them over and over to gain experience? Makes more sense than new enemies spawning out of thin air

They constantly sidestep reviving magic and say the player was knocked out as well. While other games just say it brings them back to life

Depends on the game. Most say up until some one is incapacitated they can be healed. That could be exhausted, koed, coma, drowned, dismembered, etc. And they usually follow those rules up to that point in game where character are incapacitated before healing magic works. Especially In battle. Inside and outside they have to be revived first amd like others said limbs removed don't regenerate.

Healing magic makes no sense in the actual story

I feel this way about the undead in Crpgs healing themselves with negative energy (like Pathfinder: Kingmaker).

Only in Pathfinder can 'inflicting wounds' not inflict actual wounds if an undead character uses it on themselves. Logic out of the window in that game.

Good place to vent, since the game I'm playing now (Solasta) doesn't seem to kiss the undead's @%# as much as Pathfinder does.

You raise a good point that I don't think I've ever seen healing magic used in the story of any video game ever.

It's used in the original WoW cinematic.
