Wow his voice does NOT sound deep enough for Kiryu lol

I am sure the English VA did his best for English Kiryu. But this why ppl wouldn't buy it digitally or import it. I run too many thoughts through my mind but fucking no play if no dub is a dumb one which yes I have experience in the series.......

But in the 3D0 version of Like a Dragon: Gaiden. How I escape in the game based on Itchy and Scratchy without the skeleton key.

Theres this whole thing about how voice actors have to be the same race as the characters they play now (at least in English dubs/Western media), and I think that guy was white.

No beef with the guy personally but it's awfully generic and doesnt sound at all like kiryu like he doesnt even try

Sounds like a miscast to me. Are there not other VA's who could do deep-ish voices?

I can't even listen to Kiryu in English. He will forever be in Japanese to me.

Probably an issue of direction. Of course when you can't really sing well to the point they have to add autotune there's not really much you can blame the direction for on that.

Sounds like he's trying to be Solid Snake. I'll stick with the Japanese voice acting.

Being a voice actor is his dream job and I'm glad he got to achieve his dream. I just hope it is out of hard work and beating others in the auditions and not because he has a YouTube channel.

That Japanese actor sounds boring as fuck. Is that what the character is supposed to be? Someone that sounds like they would rather be anywhere else at all times? I also dont like the English actor either for what its worth.

Since I dont speak the language its really none of my business to judge the minutia of something I dont understand. That being said, from a laymans standpoint there are instances where the language comes across so flat compared to English.

Not a huge deal for me since I don't play with dubs, though I did on the 2nd playthrough of Yakuza: LaD because everyone said it was so good (which it was) and I thought Kiryu's original VA sounded fine in it. Not a huge fan of what I've heard from the new guy but people are taking it way too far as usual.

I regret to admit that I used to go to his channel a lot for entertainment news. But since he simped so hard for cyberpunk before it came out and even gave the game like a 9 or a 10. It revealed that the dude was just blatant lying when we all found out how the game was when it released to the public.

Reputation is hard to gain, easy to lose. Now i don't really want to hear anything thay comes out of his mouth anymore

It's because the problem is direction/context, not really the VA. When you are told to deadpan a good 90% of the lines that's what you get. The difference is that people are used to Kiryu's VA being deadpan, so having someone doing it in English is always doomed to fail. It's the same with the music, where the fact that it's bad has little to do with YongYea (and even less to do with AutoTune, but that's a separate issue): that's literally how the song works, it's just that the shift in language is a big problem.

No he's hitting the notes badly. Even that "together" sounds fucked up with the autotune. And then "To what it was" has some off quality to it. Then it finishes with "Judgement" which just sounds like shit no matter who you are, unless you're completely without standards or tone deaf.

Eh, he's just using his normal voice. It really should be deeper, but I recognize that's probably just me being bias from his old dub voice. While I don't like his content on youtube, it's basically "video game industry doom and gloom" the channel and one reason why I unsubbed from Jim Sterlings channel (though my friend did tell me it's gotten better, so I might give it another shot), I do enjoy his voice acting. He fucking killed it as Father Pucci in Stone Ocean, I can't help but feel a deeper less "preacher like" voice of Pucci would've worked for Kiryu better.

Someone pointed out to me that too many Japanese characters are played by Koreans in movies and games.

He sounds like yong yea/10. Did the same thing as Chris Pratt, though his Mario voice grew on me and I stopped thinking of Chris Pratt. This hair sounds so flat and like no emotion out into it.

It just sounds so flat. Even not understanding japanese you can hear Kiryus inflection change while hes speaking.

The english just sounds so rigid.

Yea, Infact they literally started using modeling Kiryu after Kuroda. Kuroda is Kiryu, and Kiryu is Kuroda, thats a fact

He's just mis cast here.

Darryl Kurylo was pretty much the best dub voice I've heard for Kiryu ever. Yong is fine but Kiryu needs a deep english voice to match Kuroda's baritone and Yong just doesn't have it.

Not that's not it. Darryl Kurylo had retired from voice acting prior to Yakuza 7 and only came out of it to play Kiryu once more.

idk why anyone would ever want to play a yakuza game in english but i know some sick puppies will, and its very sad that their first exposure to one of the more iconic characters in all of video games will be this dude completely out of his depth sucking it up for a paycheck

Yong Yea is a Korean ethnicity, not Japanese.
