Maybe if Super Mario RPG's remake sells well enough that Nintendo and Square-Enix decide they want to make more money off of it, it could potentially happen.

Keep in mind, unless both companies are onboard with the idea, the whole thing is sunk, since Nintendo owns the Mario IP but Square-Enix owns the original characters created for Super Mario RPG, including Geno (hence why the original GBA version of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga had to include a credit for Square-Enix even for the tiny cameo that Geno got as the host of one of the minigames, and why the 3DS remake didn't include said cameo at all).
