They want to call you anytime and you just show up to work probably, yup. That sounds like people just quit on the regular, or they are just shit at scheduling / managing in general.

My employer used to call me all the time due to other dishwashers being crap at showing up to the point that I was making some sweet money due to all the extra shifts I was picking up. Now that weve actually got other dishwashers that are as reliable as me at least in regards to attendance, Im saddened by the lack of phone calls asking me to fill in for another coworker.

One of my previous jobs had that, called it "on-call," as in they can call you in whenever.

When I was hired, I didn't sign up for it, but they still tried to call me in one day on my day off when I was out of town, and I told them I couldn't make it, so they wrote me up.
