Now that abortion in law in Ohio, the GOP have all but confirmed that they are to make every effort to remove it. So they will send referendum after referendum hoping that they will be successful just one time.

They shouldn't be allowed to do this. At the very least, for something like this, there should be a limit so that they can only try to have a redo every five years or ten years etc., not just keep throwing it out there and hope that enough people stay home this time that they can classify women as second class citizens (at best.)

Good, the last couple of elections where abortion was on the ballot had higher than average turnout and Dems made gains down ballot. Keep it up!

You should be voting in every election regardless.

And I doubt it's that easy to change the constitution. Ohio Republicans are just seething and coping in the wake of their devestating loss.

The only solution is to stop electing Republicans then. Ohioans will learn.

you only need a simple majority to change the state constitution. Its why yesterday they were able to put abortion rights into the constitution. One low turnout election for Dems and it could go the other way

Soooo...Republicans want to do everything in their power to keep anti-Republican voter turnout sky-high for the next several years? Bold strategy, Cotton.

Missouri does this kind of shit as well. They tried for years to pass right to work here but it got voted down every time via ballot measure. So then they passed it through the legislature twice IIRC and the Dem governor vetoed it both times. So then they got a GOP Governor, tried via ballot measure, failed, then passed it through the legislature. It was then repealed through a ballot measure brought by petition. So now the state legislature wants to make it harder to bring things to the ballot box via petition.

The GOP isn't a political party they are fascists and they will force you to live by whatever rules they want eventually.

There is only one way to deal with fascists.

https://www.cleveland.com/open/2023/11/after-voters-back-abortion-and-pot-gop-leaders-signal-plans-to-undermine-referendums.html

Regardless, House Speaker Jason Stephens and Senate President Matt Huffman both of whom oversee broad Republican majorities in the General Assembly suggested plans to chip away at Ohioans new rights.

On abortion, Stephens said in a statement that the state legislature has multiple paths that we will explore to continue to protect innocent life. This loss, he added, is not the end of the conversation.

If they really wanted to protect innocent life they'd support gun regulations that will curb the number of shooting homicides in Ohio.

On marijuana, Huffman said lawmakers may consider amending the new state law to clarify the questionable language regarding limits for THC and tax rates as well as other parts of the statute. Stephens suggested lawmakers would alter how tax revenue from marijuana sales is allocated.

Investing in county jail construction and funding law enforcement training across Ohio should be our top priority to make our communities safer, he said.

Wanting to use tax funds generated by legalized pot to build more jails is just about the most Republican thing I can think of.

It goes both ways, my state has had some form of gun control measure on the ballot for the better part of two decades before it passed.
