I'm talking about deaths. Some games are hard, like Celeste, but dying doesn't ruin your entire playthrough.

Not all games were like this. Gradius is probably the classic example where dying at a certain spot can end the entire run, even if u have 50 lives in reserve.

What are some of the worst offenders you can think of?

The final boss of Octopath Traveler 1 was such a ridiculous difficulty spike it kinda ruined the whole game for me.

first game was point n click and play at your own pace. the devs decided to add a bunch of time events and death traps in the sequel which doesn't mesh well with the clunky point n click movements. the last part of the game is littered with them (there were a few beforehand but i tolerated them at the time lol) and that is when i quit playing. i just looked up the ending on youtube lol.

also the game is glitchy af.
