Season 3 Episode 19: Act Your Age

Cameron and Chase are fighting cuz Cameron dumped him.

House just complimented Chase for the first time!

This poor father...

This boy has a crush on Cameron. Big mistake, boy.

Cameron took a flower and kissed him. To one up Chase, but also cuz she's a freak

"Never is just reven spelled backwards." -House MD

Wilson took Cuddy to the play? :O

Wilson is the only guy who can lie to House and House believes it

House faked a bouquet of flowers and a card to Wilson. What a dick! I guess to prove Cuddy wants to fuck her.

Every episode of House needs vfibs

Chase says it's been 3 years. I guess a season is a year. Hasn't felt like thst much time has gone by.

The pervert 8 year old bites Chase. This proves to House the boy has the same disease.

Chase has a second brain blast in the same episode and connects the mom's brain tumor to the symptoms.

House is wavering on removing the pituitary gland, he's really uncomfortable even though this is the kind of thing House would do. He insists it must be environmental. He argues with Cameron in front of the patient. Cameron pulls the "my husband died of brain cancer" card.

House: "...how did you know the other kids weren't sick? You've been here for 4 days." House goes to the elementary school and asks a kid if she has hair down there.

The father being on a testosterone supplement has poisoned his children. I wonder if that's medically accurate at all.

There was actually a topic here a few weeks back regarding this subject which reminded me of this episode. I don't remember the contents of the topic anymore, though.

There was a doctor who actually reviewed episodes of House and part of his reviews included how plausible the medicine was.

If you want to read it, just be wary that it's organized from newest to oldest, and contains spoilers for episode titles.

S3 E20: House Training

"Loss of free will? I like it! Maybe we can get Thomas Aquinas in for a consult."

"There's a lot of porn piling up on the internet. Won't download itself!"

Foreman's parents are in town. Foreman hasn't been home in 8 years and his mom is losing her memory.

"A gentle, polite reminder once a week is hardly stalking." - Chase

This is a weeeiird episode. House is getting the rundown on Wilson's sex life and dating history.

"You have to have sex with Cuddy."

After frying the patient's immune system, they begin to believe its an infection.

James' ex is very upset House is no longer on the condo market. Partially blames him for their divorce.

Foreman punches a dent in the wall.

This episode sure forgot about Foreman's parents.

NO WAY WAS that the frame they got the "This vexes me" meme from the 'every House episode'

Chase: I pretend to believe in God to feel less lonely

House was guilted into taking Hector the dog?

House felt like a good show for like, five minutes. But I'll never forget a scene, where House is like "gee what is wrong with this person," and suddenly the person's eye like, literally pops out, and House is stilll like "gee, what is wrong with this person," as if that wasn't some sort of "holy shit, what" moment.

And all of this was within the first like, ten minutes. And the rest of the episode follows the typical

House: "IS IT LUPUS?!"
Everybody else: "...No. No, it is not."
House: "Oh. *Figures out the problem in the last five minutes of the episode.*"
Everybody else: "HOUSE YOU ARE A GENIUS."

format.

Basically, here is my issue with House, after like, a season or two.

With a show like Monk, they atleast got creative, and invented scenarios where you could believably think "Okay, it makes sense why an OCD detective picked up on things normal detectives did not."

In House, it's literally just "...Why the fuck didn't a normal doctor notice this?! Why did it take literally House to recognize a condition literally any normal doctor should have seen?!"

Monk portrayed Monk as being uniquely better than average detectives.
House portrayed literally every doctor but House being a complete idiot.

Because the typical doctor treats symptoms and supposes some of the most common causes of them to base the treatment on. House is who people go to when they've had a second opinion, and a third, and they're still popping eyeballs. Or if it's an ER case, Cuddy gives it to House when the normal people try the usual stuff and can't get any progress.

House is a diagnostician so his job is to come up with novel but possible explanations for unusual symptom combinations.

And there are a ton of conditions with overlapping symptom manifestation. The stuff House deals with is the stuff you can't just give someone a pill and send them home for, he often has to make serious decisions that could kill the patient if the diagnosis is wrong, or at least mutilate them.

Yes, I agree, in theory. And, in theory, that's what makes House interesting.

But, past the first few seasons, that isn't what House is. Instead of creating interesting scenarios that make you think "Gee, this is weird, and I get why normal doctors couldn't figure it out," they just basically default to... Literally every doctor but House is an idiot who should probably not be practicing.

That's why I ended up dropping the show. After a few seasons, they stopped being creative, and instead just made everybody but House a moron.

Granted, I did love the first few seasons, but after awhile, instead of creating intriguing scenarios for House, they just make... Everybody else really dumb.

EDIT: To be clear, mileage will vary. I'm biased, for personal reasons. And, to be fair, it's still a very entertaining show. I'm just somebody who focuses on the actual medical aspects, for reasons.

Season 3 Episode 21: Family

Boy scheduled to give bone marrow sneezes in the clean room. House's cane has been chewed up by his new dog.

Wilson: "They're African-American. That makes it nearly impossible to find a full match."
House: "Tell me about it. I can't even find the one that's supposed to be working for me."

House: "All you had to do is say, 'Yes, I do!' God knows you've said it enough in your life."
Wilson: "And it was a mistake every time."

Chase and Foreman demonstrate their pitching arms, but scene cuts make me question if a different crewman is throwing the rebounds for the actors.

Wilson vs Foreman arguing to Cuddy.
"Do you have anything to add to this debate?"
"Wilson's right, Foreman's wrong"

House: I think he's got the yips. . . Great athletes, lost confidence and started sucking. He's got 4 days and then he's fired. You don't get better from the yips.

"Either we cripple one son or kill the other."
*House flashes his cane* "He won't be able to play baseball. Doesn't make him a cripple."

Wilson: "By that logic a sociopath would make the best patient advocate in the world."
House: "am I blushing?"

Wilson: "I didn't do the surgery..."
House: "You woke me up just to tell me you're lazy?"

Hector the dog ate a bunch of House's pills and got stoned.

"Lupus is our best bet" - Gregory House M.D.

Timeline on lil bro's death moved up.

*House's cane suddenly cracks in two*
Wilson: "Not me this time!"
House: "NO! IT'S YOUR DAMN DOG"

It's not Lupus.

Foreman has informed the parents of the 4-out-of-6 donor. This is accompanied by ominous music.

"Foreman did what he thinks was right! You on the other hand sucked out!" (everyone in the hallway looks over) "When the decision really mattered you didn't have the guts to tell them what to do! When that kid dies it's because Foreman was wrong and you're a coward."

Someone came into House's open apartment and stole his stereo. He left the door open hoping the dog would leave and die.

Hugh Laurie puts a tobacco pipe in his teeth and instantly looks like he's in a period piece.

House says he's sorry for calling Wilson a coward. Wilson is a coward, so he accepts.

"You're pathetic. I didn't actually mean that!"
"Yes you did."
"No I didnt! To infinity!"
"Yes you did. ... you're pathetic >:("

"Why don't you buy your cane at a medical supply store like a normal cripple?"
"Fewer bitchin' choices."

"Genuine bull penis stretched over a metal rod."
"............Penis canes are murder."

House's new cane is literally just a generic black cane with a flame decal.

"We're done with Nick?"
"GOD is done with Nick. We know what he has, we're treating it, it's not working. Life is for the living."

Let's give Leukemia kid the infection to turn him into a petri dish so we figure out the other brother's infection before he dies.

"You only have one decision to make. You can leave here with one dead son or two."
Wilson: "You should let us do this."
Mom: "NO!" Dad: "We are not giving up on Nick!"
House owned by the human condition yet again.

"Kids' parents don't wanna be parents anymore. [Chase], you're sneaky. Any ideas for how to get around this?"
"Court order?"
"That's not very sneaky... :("

House writes a trick pain med prescription to get alone with the kid and tell him all the things he never got to do. To convince him to let House infect him. All filmed like a supervillain seducing.

"I can't sedate you. You're too sick..." Foreman straps the kid up and steals his bone marrow. House approves. Both kids are saved.

Hector can't put weight on one paw. Looks back at House as Wilson walks him away and they share a look of solidarity. House catches a pill the same way he throws one to Hector.

House tells Foreman he was right. Foreman hates that he can hear a kid screaming in pain and not question whether he's doing the right thing. "I hate that to be like you as a doctor... I have to be like you as a human being.... I don't want to turn into you."

House: "You're not. You've been like me since you were 8 years old."

Foreman: "You'll save more people than i will... but I'll settle for killing less... consider this my two weeks notice."

*******

Yeah. Maybe the best episode of House so far.

Season 3 E22: Resignation

House keeps trying to come into the room but the trio keep kicking him out and saying they're not done reading the case. Cameron and Chase don't know Foreman is quitting.

Foreman doesn't want to talk to Chase about it. "I don't like you. Never have, never will." Chase thinks Foreman is really just ashamed of his true reason.

Chase deduces House is ashamed too. Has been feeling like the show angles Chase to be as good as him / his successor one day.

Foreman laughs at a House joke for the first time. Chase says Foreman is nervous. House notices it is not an infection because the patient has begun dying.

"There's something called.... Bloood in the plural effusion."
"Can't ignore something just because it's a minority, can you, Foreman?"

Chase really is a walking dictionary this episode. "Complement factor H deficiency! :o"

"You're eating flesh?!"

Chase puts the patient in the Clockwork Orange machine.

The pharmacist just let HOUSE of all people have 3 pills of amphetamines no questions asked. House crushed them up and put them in Wilson's coffee because he's a psycho. Wilson is rightly suspicious, but he never saw The Princess Bride, so he believes the coffee House isn't offering him is clean. But that's the drugged one.

House thinks the patient actually does have an infection despite all tests proving negative.

The top of the patient's fucking head blew up. House begins filming a Saw tape.

House gets pissed when Chase suggests steroids and tells him maybe he'll accidentally kill the patient and quit on him like Foreman. Turns out though Chase was right.

Wilson is trying to counsel Foreman about staying but sounds like he's having an aneurysm due to the amphs. Rather than figure out what's wrong with him, Foreman just looks on in unamused disapproval. Wilson then goes to do a breast exam. Robert Leonard is really good at playing a coked up doctor. "Excuse me, I have to go kill someone."

House insists Wilson is on antidepressants. Wilson admits it. "This is why I take them!" Wilson takes one of House's vicodin. House admits he pees in coffee cups when he doesn't want to limp to the bathroom. This isn't a great episode for either main doctor's life.

Cameron breaks into House's apartment to tell him the patient's kidneys are shutting down.

Foreman roasts House for not knowing the names of the patient or parents.

Dying patient tells House she doesn't want to hear the diagnosis. He awkwardly walks away with puppy dog eyes before coming back and melts down about her not wanting to know his diagnosis.

"What's the point of living without curiosity?"
"You can only diagnose a problem by looking at--" (looks into mirror and sees he is smiling)

House realizes something's wrong with him, but not a character flaw: he realizes Wilson dosed him with the antidepressant, and that's why Wilson gave him all those coffees.

"She was no different than she'd ever been!....... oh god."

"Youve.... have got leprechauns in ya." Diagnoses the patient with depression and a suicide attempt. "Surgery to fix the bridge will take about two hours. Psychotherapy will be a little longer"

House tells the parents about her suicide attempt after promising not to tell them.

"Can we call you? If we have any questions!" "No."
