I've wondered this too, I like her in every song I hear. I was thinking maybe she put herself into specific niche that faded out with time. Or that she just made enough money and stepped off.

Shes the only remaining founding member of Evanescence. By far the most important but still. You cant crank out hits forever. Most people cant anyway.

Sometimes, artists/bands who are incredibly talented just doesn't end up getting anymore bigger, unfortunately. I can think of quite a few I like.
And sometimes, there are those who don't really care that much after they found their initial success and made the conscious decision to step away from the scene, or take on a more backseat role; like Gregg Alexander or that band Magic.

She did get bigger though....

Evanescence is huge. Like almost 20 years later they still sell out venues for ridiculous amounts. But I think you mean bigger in the mainstream? Honestly, it's a combination of things.

For one, her album releases are sporadic. Fallen was huge but they didn't release a follow-up for almost four years. There were lots of issues behind the scenes, too, which didn't help matters. Ben Moody (credited with a good portion of Evanescence's sound) left the band the same year as Fallen dropped, which most likely didn't help in this regard. But even with the initial gap and the issues behind the scenes, it would have been fine as they were still relevant enough to continue momentum...only it took her another 5 years to release more music (2011) and then from there they didn't release an entirely new album until 2021 - a full decade later. The album releases were just way too inconsistent.

And another thing that doesn't help is that the sound isn't consistent. There was a subtle change from Fallen to The Open Door, but the sound of those two is quite different from their self-titled album & The Bitter Truth. Like if you're a fan of their earlier stuff you might not vibe with their later stuff.

So yeah, I'd say sporadic releases + inconsistency in sound is what hurt them.

Bad marketing for her agents. She could have spun off them and done a Gwen Stefani thing. Instead she had 2-3 hits and disappeared.

Probably imagery and that she had a band as her vehicle rather than single name. Evanescence had a mallgoth and theater kid niche that never seemed to branch out.

Shout outs to the white middle-aged woman in who pulled into a Wal-Mart parking lot in 2016 and black middle aged man in a football jersey smoking a cigar as he drove near a medical district in 2018 who were blasting Bring Me to Life from their convertibles .

If you just want other stuff that sounds like it there's plenty of options though.

After The Open Door they made really shitty music, Fallen and The Open Door were their best stuff.

The album Evanescence was a tone change and many people who loved their first two albums dropped them due to it not being as good.

Instead of being hard hitting music it became generic and lacking. People liked them with having that edge which was gone as more original members of the band left.

I had their album, back in the early 2000's. Aside from the hits that played all the time on tv, the rest of the songs in the album all sounded the same. She is not a one-hit wonder but very close.

That is such a double edged sword. I think it's great when a musician grows and branches out with what they are doing. A new style might bring in new fans but alienate older ones. But if they never change, they get accused of being stale and having no creativity. It also depends on if the shift is subtle between albums so you can follow a time-line and see progression or just a drastic departure from one to the next. I feel that if the latter, it's probably best to release it under a different name.

TBH by the time the first album was released, their sound had already changed.

Only three of their songs charted anywhere near a damn, and only Bring Me to Life and My Immortal would be what you could consider hits.
