Its harder the more experience / education you have because employers think youll just be looking for a better job the whole time and jump ship in a few months.

a lot of food service/retail jobs like to hire their friends or family.

there is mcdonalds not too far from me, i had an asian female friend, she told me her hiring manager said he is only comfortable hiring other asians because they wont steal or cause problems with other employees.

i also notice a lot of east indians owning subways, popeyes, togos as well and will only hire their own people. which is cool, but sucks if youre looking for a position.

Actually, it flies in the face of equal employment opportunity laws.

it's because of the huge amounts of applications they get.

The number of applications any one drive-thru receives in relation to how many employees they need to hire for that location allows them to quite literally be more selective in their hiring than any top university is in admissions.

The difference of course being in what they are selective with. A 15-16 yo who is going to be thrilled with any little bit of extra spending money as opposed to needing enough to live, and isn't even available to work full time between school and family obligations so will never be eligible for benefits, and is likely to have fucked off before they would be eligible for any raises anyways, and doesn't know what is and isn't legal to be able to report their bosses for labor or osha violations is what they want.

Yeah, but good luck actually proving it in any court. So long as they can maintain a decent level of plausible deniability, employers can hire or fire anyone for any reason. Really, most hiring happens on a similar scale; call it nepotism, cronyism, or "networking", meritocracy is mostly an illusion.

True. But, if this manager knows what is good for him, he wouldnt make a habit out of saying it out loud.

Recruiters will tell you you can pick your MOS, but chances are, you will not have any say. If they put you in the infantry, what are you gonna do, say no?

Then I recommend avoiding the army and marines, instead go for Coast Guard or Air Force...and with your ASVAB score settle in a support or technical role...do 4 years active and your finished...

Heck Coast Guard is just patrolling waterways, helping out with floods, and working on engineering projects in waterways like the MS River...

Thats why you get it in writing. you sign a contract for enlistment. you pick yer job or field and make damn sure its on the paper, what whatever else they promised you, before you sign. not there? dont sign. simple.
