If Jesus actually existed, I believe he would be unrecognizable to most mainstream modern Christians. Particularly the conservative ones. I think Republicans in America would call him a socialist. He'd probably be condemned

False. Socialism is compulsory. Jesus had no interest in forcing anyone to give to others.

This is such an in-bad-faith post that it's not even worth untangling

Kinda feels like giving all your wealth away as a prerequisite to getting into Heaven qualifies as "compulsory," especially given the alternative destination.

There are more than 24 verses in Matthew 19.

Didn't Jesus tell the prostitutes to "go and sin no more"?

He was hanging with them because he was trying to save them, not because he condoned their choice of profession

Naw, he defended the crap out if them. Both before and after the point where he ran into the temple, flipped over some tables, and said to shove off with your merchant BS. He was all about understanding that society was not fair and that people needed to stop being bigoted.

the teaching was that you don't *need* wealth to get into heaven. being forced to give any wealth away is just more greed of man.

Mark 10, Verse 25 is pretty clear about it: the act of being rich means that you are not going to heaven as the act of being rich means that you have sinned.

I don't think that conflicts with what the guy you were responding to say. He understood that while maintaining one of his goals of getting people to not sin.
