Tien stalled Semi-Perfect Cell for a long while and dodged a blast from Majin Buu. Krillin got spit on by Dabura.

I'm also not sure Tien is stronger than Krillin.

The only real evidence for that is that Tien fought Trunks in one of the movies but the movies are non canon.

Krilling got dat sweet Guru powerup and his ultimate attack doesn't kill himself.

Solar Flare + Destructo Disc = Tien now has 6 eyes because his head got cut in half.

OG Dragonball? Sure Tien takes it. But Z? Doubt. Tien was too much of a wimp to even try fighting Perfect Cell.

The alien part only added after the in-story statement that Krillin is the strongest human.
It was never mentioned in the story, and rather than changing the statement Toriyama just go "fuck it, tenshinhan is an alien too".

They really don't do a lot of world building XD

Everyone wishes Krillin would have done that once, but no evidence he can even do Solar Flare and Kienzan back to back. Probably takes too much energy.

They're kinda a trope in Japanese media (three-eye people/demons), as "Oni" are often depicted as having three eyes, as are their descendants occasionally.

Depending on what happens in terms of the new Daima series, Super might be as canon as GT was. Z and the original Dragon Ball are definitely canon always at least.

Erlang Shen had 3 eyes and beat up Sun Wukong with assistance.

That was the inspiration for Tien.

Aside from the first couple of movies, it was more Toyotaro and Toei. Akira Toriyama supervised a lot and gave bullet points. That said, Daima might retcon most of Super as AT is having more direct involvement with overseeing that series.

Tropes are often used in storytelling for that exact reason, they don't need to be explained, or steps can be skipped.
It's why the sentence "She took the single red rose, sprayed it with hairspray, and touched a flame to it while whispering "bastard", tells a whole story and works in modern Western media, because of the tropes, and certain things can be missing from the sentence and it still paints a picture and a story.
In other times, say before the Greek age, Middle age and Victorian age cemented a rose (especially the Victorian age with it's "Language of flowers" as a symbol of love/longing) the story wouldn't make nearly as much sense.

I thought Toriyama only did a couple of character concepts for GT and thats pretty much it? Was that not it? Its so hard to really know whats canon and what isnt in Dragonball. Hell the Manga and Anime are both canon but are their own continuity
