Actually Saturn failed for a myriad of reasons too.
Sega of America made some pretty dumb decisions regarding Saturn probably more so than Japan did

Nope. That was on the Japanese division of Sega because of bitter old men who hated how the American division was doing much better than them

The add ons pushed for the genesis werent exactly selling like hotcakes. Sure Sega of Japan made Saturn development a Herculean task but Sega of America vetoed localizations and did terrible marketing

Uhhh, the Japanese library is huge and Sega of America announced the Saturn is not the future. Segata never had an ad in America.
What proof do you need that Sega of America dropped the ball?

That doesn't mean shit. That's not proof. Some of you are slurping for Japan hard and not wanting to fault them for the reason Saturn failed.

no one in america knows who that is, nor would they care

that's like trying to say nintendo only was successful in america because they had miyamoto in commercials. they didn't, actually, so using your logic it means nintendo of america dropped the ball and nintendo failed

in reality why they failed was because their games sucked, and the peripheral madness that was the genesis leading to consumer fatigue since no one knew what the fuck they needed to buy to play whatever title was released they wanted. did they just need the genesis? or maybe they needed the sega cd? what even is a 32x is it standalone? no? christ on a cracker i'm just gonna get mario.

all sega tried to do was compete with nintendo, and later sony, instead of listening to what their fans actually wanted and let the userbase dwindle as they chased nintendo and rushed out halfassed products that no one wanted instead of focusing on the things they actually did do well.

Both regions are to blame. It was starting to sound like only Japan's fault and America handled the Saturn best they could.
The Saturn needed so much more love in America.
Sega is a sad history. Their consoles rock though, so there's that.

Saturn failed in America because of the absurd piece.

I loved the GC, I disliked the N64 funnily enough, I am not a fan of the 1st party games i.e Mario, Zelda and many of the known ones.

But if a game was multiplat I generally went for GC, Xbox I loved too, that gen I only played PS2 if it was the only version available as graphically it looked less colourful and more jaggy, GC I could use cheat discs, import games etc.

Only downside was the controller for fighting games.

Ps2 was pretty much just for final fantasy for me. Glad I had one though only reason I got to get into metal gear solid as someone gave me a copy of 3. Since then I've played every one cepth ghost babel and snakes revenge if you count that

I had all 3. Barely touched the ps2 outside exclusives it had like final fantasy or metal gear solid. It was a solid system but if a game was multiplat I typically preferred my Xbox. Never cared for Playstation controllers till ps4

I played thr game cube more too but that's partially thanks to soul calibur 2. GameCube was probably the most played console just because of that game. Link was the best guest character.

Link however I was damn good with without feeling cheap. He was just fun to play too. I had a flow with him

My friends and I tended to devolve into spamming that one grab Link has that's particularly good for ring outs, since none of us were good enough to consistently break grabs. That got pretty cheap.

I preferred cage matches so no ring outs could occur.
