I'm really just waiting for a heavy hitting canon episode. This episode just seems like a throwaway one. I liked the first two more.

Also, why does it feel like Rick is, idk like, emasculated or something? It feels like he's being overly nice and always in the wrong without him pointing out the obvious, more like he just whines and pouts about it.

I actually liked this one the most so far of the 3 episodes. Rick is trying to better himself and be less of a selfish prick to the ones he actually cares about.

But like, trying to better himself for what reason? Less selfish because of what? We just see scenes of Rick being "better" but there's no like, why he's doing it, precursor that led up to it, or lasting impact.

In the past, Rick is selfish because to him, it's logical to be selfish. There are infinite Mortys out there, why ever care about this one? Friendships all end eventually through death, why hold onto them? The selfless moments Rick has are the ones where he pulls away his facade and realizes that he couldn't bear losing them and that he needs them.

But these moments don't really pull that off for me. Summer and Rick bickering in the garage was just a random off moment, why did he say sorry? Rick didn't want to enable Mr PB on an adventure and tried to call it off, why is it "noble" that he sticks out the journey to the end? Why does Rick suddenly care about receiving therapy?

Contrasted to S6's end of "this is the most toxic shit in my life and I'm pulling you into it" or w/e he said. Maybe that's the entire point of this build up, but they don't feel like real Rick moments, because those moments usually come out when something was on the line, like BP's friendship, him being a good father to Beth, losing Morty, etc.

I like R&M the most when it's about the implications of being that logical, and also the scifi concepts it introduces in a digestible way. I think Ep2 is the best so far, but there's been no mindblowing episodes yet. Even moments like, Rick thinking he needs to wear 'alien' antennae to greet his micoverse battery planet.

Saw some people on reddit saying the actor for Morty was hard to get in the booth so they scrubbed a lot of story-boarded content and scenes with a larger emphasis on Rick instead.

This season is showing a lot of growing (or maybe midlife) pains. The VA duo is a fair imitation, but they came in to re-record and scrub everything Roiland did up to that point. Meeting the deadline to release, and not delaying, was huge to AS for whatever reason. It must be a strange feeling to be a professional hired to imitate prior acting rather than giving it your own characterization or spin, it's played extremely safely. Part of me wishes the rumor of the voice-change-gag was true, it might have been better.
