I barely make small talk with people I know, let alone strangers.

Yes, but it's because they always come up to me and start talking. It's like being a hot girl only its never clear if theyre trying to bang me or theyre just chatty. Everyone tries to talk to me and I'm just out here trying to live my life and buy some eggs at the grocery store. It's fucking exhausting.

not usually. bartenders and patrons tho, sure. randos at parties, sure. cant think of other examples atm

I wont initiate it, but if someone starts talking to me, then Ill talk back for a bit.

No. I struggle to talk with most anyone. I just really don't have much to say.

This morning at work, a lady was checking out of the hotel. I asked if she had a nice stay, and she was polite about it but said that she barely slept. So I asked if it was a problem with the bed, or room or something. And she answered "No, my mom died." Then started bawling and ran off. I was just trying to fill in the silence while we waited for her receipt to print. I felt so bad, it made me want to cry too. If I had waited 5 seconds and handed it to her without asking it wouldn't have made a scene. v_v

It's less fun than you'd think.

In a situation like you described instead of running off she would've come behind the counter and laid on floor and talked about her mom while I tried to do work stuff. For reasons I do not understand in any way, women love to lay on the floor and talk to me if that's an option. It's just as awkward as if they'd ran away.

I used to when I drank. Sober you realize no one wants to be bothered by some random person unless it involves getting money or sex

Usually depends on where this strangers are. If it's like a cultural festival or a social event or even when I was in university, then yeah, I'd go with someone and make some remarks about anything that's happening. Of course, if NOTHING is happening, then I wouldn't bother anyone minding their own business.

If it's like a store or some place where people are just going to do mundane tasks that need to be done, then no, I'd rather save them the additional suffering of having to talk with some random while they are doing chores.

I'd like to be better at initiating this sort of thing but no not really.

It depends on the situation. I dont mind talking with a store clerk or something while they ring me up, but I usually dont strike up conversations with random strangers.

No. I don't want to be bothered by strangers, so I don't bother them either.

I don't start conversations with strangers. But I don't have issues with strangers talking to me.

Depends on location for me or if they talk to me (and if feel like they aren't trying to sell me something/ get me to join something)
