There was a joke in Full House I think where Jesse or Joey commented that you could get like a $2 buffet so I always assumed from a young age the stuff was cheap to entice gamblers bc that's where they make the real money.

And then I remember hearing that a lot of the casinos give you free drinks as long as you were gambling bc alcohol is cheap and you can spend a lot of money paying games really fast.

But then I go and everything is hella pricey, including the booze! Is this new or was I just led astray?

Led astray? I go to Vegas fairly often, and I would describe it as a somewhat cheap vacation. But thats because Im not too far from it.

If you want an all you can eat buffet youre probably looking at $30. Im sure it was cheaper in the 90s but even then I doubt it was two dollars.

first time i ever went to vegas, i feel like we caught the tail end of the 'everything is cheap' era. the room was cheap, and the buffets were cheap, but the quality was also lesser and reflected the price.

i've been a regular visitor ever since and it's definitely not that mindset now, but i also have more money now so maybe that changes things. either way, certainly no cheap food, and the rooms themselves aren't lower price either, even off the strip.

still get free drinks while gambling though, but you gotta be playing more than the 1 cent machines. well even with the cent machines i got a drink or two once, but not nearly as often, and again a long time ago.

Vegas was never cheap.
They woo you with flight+hotel packages to fly there then surprise fuck you with daily $25-50 resort fees and not to mention everything else that costs a lot of money within the city.

I turned 21 back in 2000 and yes, everything was a lot less expensive back then.

I'm not an expert on it but I have been there in the past, also to Atlantic City and the last time I was there in the 90's it was just like that. Free drinks on the gambling floor, if you placed a lot of bets they would even offer you a free room in their casino or free shows on the strip and the buffet was only a couple of dollars and it was excellent and delicious.

We used to drive up to Atlantic City from Norfolk Virginia quite a bit because it was fun and super cheap entertainment as long as you didn't lose a bunch of money gambling.
