I thought he traced at first but noticed some of the proportions are a bit off and IF he was tracing off his TV it'd be a smaller. The coloring and shading were definitely all him.

My kid is super into the manga drawing thing as well. Her characters are pretty suggestive though.

I dont know if they are some kind of OC or from some of her weird obscure mangas.

You're right on that one actually...but it actually was 14 years ago that my late wife and I had literally no sleep for about 30 or so hours because she went into labor before we could even get to sleep the night before.
