It took me 10-ish years off and on, and I also included every spin off or special that had been made.

For the missing episodes I watched the animated reconstructions when they exist, otherwise I listened to the soundtracks with the 'telesnaps'.

I do recommend anyone that is a fan of the new show to give the original series a shot. It has its ups and downs, but is a lot of fun. Just a huge time commitment.

I think the audio exists even of the missing episodes.

Also I'm kinda doing that now too. I tried once before and only got to the 2nd doctor. After many many years I started over and am still in first doctor. But I will say, I really like the First Doctor.

First Doctor is the roughest. So many episodes, and some really bad ones. What helped me get through was watching some of the documentaries on the early days of the show. They were so limited in what they could do, it gave me a new appreciation for what the crew was able to accomplish.

Also fun to see how many times William Hartnell will mess up his lines each episode.

Second Doctor is where the show really found its footing, and by the Third Doctor the show is legitimately great.

Whos your favorite Doctor?
Best companion?
Do you prefer the style of the old series (several shorter episodes covering a single story) or the newer format (one or two longer episodes covering a single story)?

Which Doctor had the best outfit?
Do you think Jodi Whitaker got shafted with bad episodes?
Did Capaldis third season make him significantly more likable?

Of the Baker boys, which would you rather wear, Colins jacket or Toms scarf?

Whos your favorite Doctor?
Third is my favorite. Followed my Fourth and Twelve.

Best companion?
Jaime is the best companion I think the show has had. He had a genuine friendship with the Doctor, but still fulfilled his role as being the audience's stand in to ask questions about what's happening. I love Sarah Jane, Ace, and Donna as well. And Peri was not an amazing character, but she was insanely attractive so I have a soft spot for her.

I think the show has lost a little of the fun now by having every companion be someone from current day UK.

Do you prefer the style of the old series (several shorter episodes covering a single story) or the newer format (one or two longer episodes covering a single story)?

The old style I think worked better, solely because the cliffhangers were always the best part. The loud screech followed by the theme song at the end got me amped to watch the next episode. It does unfortunately mean some stories got spread out very thin in order to fill 4-6 episodes though. But the newer seasons have the opposite problem where they introduce too many characters and too much plot for 45 minutes.

Which Doctor had the best outfit?
The Third Doctor's cape is so good. I don't know what they were thinking in the 80s with the costumes. Twelfth Doctor also I think looks great.

Do you think Jodi Whitaker got shafted with bad episodes?
Yes, but I don't think that's the only issue. I just don't like her portrayal. And it comes down to writing, but also the direction and her personal acting choices. Nearly early every single scene she is out of breath and looks confused. And I get it, they are trying to make it more action packed and exciting. But it reminded me of the JJ Abrams Star Trek movies, where everyone is running at all times, and there is no room for any character moments.

Thirteen also has 0 chemistry with any of the companions, which is again partly writing but also just miscast actors for the roles.

Did Capaldis third season make him significantly more likable?
I think his third season was my least favorite. I like him kind of being a grumpy old man, especially coming off from three younger doctors in a row. Bill was a bit of a nothing character for that season too.

Scarf you could potentially style. There is no redeeming Colin Baker's blazer.

Who's your favourite Doctor? What's your favourite adversary of the Doctor?

I'll always have a soft spot for Nine, Christopher Eccleston. He was my first Doctor, never seen any episodes before him cause they didn't air the show here. Well, they did but that was before I was born.

The Third Doctor and his rivalry with the Master is he favorite. Some of the more recent appearances of the Master are a bit too cartoonish for me, but I still love the character. I wish they would dial it back a bit though, and get back to him feeling like a James Bond villain.

Yes, in the US they are on BritBox. It's a streaming service by the BBC. It has everything except for the missing episodes, for those you will need to use other means, since the reconstructions are mostly done by fans.

My local library system also had a ton of the DVDs of the original series. They were all packed with interesting special features, so that was cool.

Ah right, I've heard of BritBox but never looked into it. Thanks!
