About a cursed billionaire family. Each episode focuses on a different family member, is themed around their unique way of exerting power/privilege, before giving them a gruesome ironic death. Edgar Allen Poe is also involved.

Nobody subscribes to Netflix anymore though so I guess there's no way to watch it *wink*

I was hoping he'd show up at the end like Nick Fury

It's more family drama flavoured with horror. And I know that's kind of Flanagan's whole thing but this leans more in that. The curse kind of looms over the family and the show isn't really trying to surprise you, after episode 2 you pretty much know how every episode will play out and even the show's ending.

I think Midnight Mass peaked with episode 5 and I'm not sure I'd consider any part of Usher quite as good as that, but at the same time the plot isn't as dumb as absolute garbage like MM's is. It's stronger the whole way through, I don't think I'd point to any episode and say "this is the peak and everything afterwards sucks".

Damn, some semi-spoilers in that first post...

tbh, when I recently learned about it, I was definitely interested after learning some of the details. However, when I'd first heard about the title, didn't realize it was a show instead of a movie, and thought it was just another normal adaptation of Poe's story, I was absurdly disinterested.

Honestly, the involvement of Mike Flanagan is unsurprising, since he took two other works where I groaned at hearing there'd be another adaptation -- Hill House and The Turning of the Screw (aka Bly Manor) -- and got me heavily invested from almost the first episode.
