You know everyone hates everything you're doing right now.

So in a blatant attempt to get everyone to stop complaining.

You stick the most respected writer still on your payroll into a non 616 book and tell him to write a story that will make everyone shut up, while still taking a complete shit over your actual mainline books.

I'm sure this will be a FANTASTIC Spiderman Comic....but boy can I not look at it with anything but cynicism.

Alternatively, Hickman himself did decide to do this all on his own, but all that really proves is that they've treating the most competent exclusive writing talent they still have with way less respect than he deserves, considering his they treated his X-men.

But yeah, this topic only exists for like...3 people on this board to respond to at most, but I couldn't help it.

Other horrible eras of Spiderman are, like, funny to think back on about how terrible they were. Even One More Day is an enormous moment, it sucked ass for the books but nobody will ever forget that moment.

What's going on right now is just....sad....a malaise of mediocrity. There's no value here, nothing to look back on fondly. It's tendrils are also reaching out to mess with other characters, too.

Now we just have Paul memes.

And it's frustrating because Hickman Spiderman should be a thing to be very excited about and I WILL be getting this comic and it WILL be good, but it's not the first time that a good comic would simultaneously be an enormous red flag for the line.

Actually I'm not sure if Al Ewing or Hickman is Marvel's biggest name on their books right now.

Hickman has the longer standing but....I actually wouldn't be surprised if he jumps to the other side at some point like most of the others have.

Leave the OTP alone so Paul can finally have his happiness. All Marvel editorial does is keep taking away from him. His children are GONE and it's not right what they keep doing to the character.

Having heard about the latest Spider-Man comic stuff Im glad I dont follow the comics. It sounds like to most Spider-Man fans theyre the worst thing hes in now since hes got great series, movies and video games

Do we have confirmation that there actually bringing back the UU, or is this just an attempt to compete with DC announcing they're bringing back Elseworlds?

The disparity between the comic output of these two companies right now is just ridiculous. Like, I'm following some excellent books. New Daredevil is actually better than that mid stuff Zdarsky was doing after they relaunched it back to #1 AGAIN while he focused on Batman. PKJ Hulk isn't reaching Ewing levels yet but it's starting strong. Ewing Thor is starting out great. JMS Cap is good.

....But this is all new stuff that they may end up resetting again in another 9 months, because that's just what Marvel does now.

It's not!

And you know, it's not like I like doing the whole DC vs Marvel thing, good comics are good comics.

But DC has pretty much undone almost EVERY unpopular famous decision they've made over the last 2 decades these last few years, and have often not felt the need to even justify it. They listen when people are unhappy and usually it works out! This is, admittedly, a recent phenomenon, and it took giving Didio the boot to make it happen, but still.

I mean fuck man, they brought back Lian Harper a couple months ago!

The only thing I can think of that's really aril sticking around is Alfred's death, but I feel like they've done a lot to work with that and justify it. I am not a fan of a lot of King's Batman, but this really wasn't a sticking point for me.

The thing that's wild is that they're still letting Zeb Wells write this thing. Like everyone hates this shit. I'm sure you had him there as a useful fall guy for the Ms. Marvel murder, but that's passed. You can actually replace the dude now.

Really wild that Spider-Man had a pretty awful run prior to this too where Nick Spencer tried to "fix" all the awful writing in Spider-Man's past and then also created that Kindred nonsense. At least then it was reasonably clear that he got meddled with by editorial there, but man. Spidey just can't catch a break.

Zeb Wells has written great comics in the past like Hellions and Ant-Man, so it sucks to see him being the patsy for this editorial disaster.

I literally could not force myself through more than like 6 issue of Spencerman. Ryan Ottley on art didn't help, obviously he's good but it was distracting for obvious reasons.

Tom Taylor Spiderman was SO GOOD. Chip Zdarsky Spiderman was SO GOOD. And it's all been trashed.

Thought this would be more complaining about the Wells run. I guess if you're a fan of the marriage, you're getting what you want (essentially).
Either way, the Hickman book is probably going to be good so it's weird to complain about it.

However, I also low key agree with editorial that married spider-man is boring so I'm not the right person to ask. The problem is that Marvel can't stop teasing the MJ fanboys with this stuff. Just have Peter and MJ be mature about it, and then Pete can be a grown ass adult who isn't hung up on a girl while also giving writers the freedom to play up tension with other girls. Brand new Day did this okay. Just quit the will they won't they with MJ shit.

Complaining about the current Wells run is pointless because everyone already knows. There's nothing really to say.

Legitimately, Mary Jane Watson is terrible and Black Cat has yet again proven that she far outpaces MJ as a good love interest for Peter. It was true in Ultimate Spider-Man, it was true in the cartoons, it was true in Spiders-Man 1 and 2 for PlayStation...

Just stop with Mary Jane Watson. Then. Now. Forever.

Peter as a (web)-swinging single works better for the character.

I'm actually with scarlet here in that Mary Jane kind of bores me. I've never found her and Peter compelling together and I just don't get the appeal. Like they're fine, but Mary Jane is just dull and adds nothing to Peter.

I definitely prefer most of Peter's other love interests. I feel there is something far more interesting you can do with a Mary Jane relationship with someone else than saddling her with Peter.

The problem with One More Day wasn't necessarily breaking up Peter and MJ. It was giving up his entire future (including a child) to revive his ancient aunt who is probably going to die soon anyway (in real world terms anyway).

I get you can chalk it up as an "emotional decision," but it was a really dumb choice by Peter. I don't have any attachment to MJ. I just don't buy the choice.

Absolutely fucking insane that Aunt May is still alive.

Basically every other universe has killed her off, like they giving the big middle finger to 616.
