Ohio is one week into early voting for the November election, and already some counties are seeing record-breaking early turnout.

In Hamilton County, the board of elections reports at the close of business on Tuesday, 7,267 ballots returned through early voting. To compare, during this time frame in 2021, 1,349 ballots were cast. This means more than five times the amount of people are choosing to vote early compared to 2021.

Warren County Board of Elections reports it's seeing a 350% increase in early voting during the first week compared to 2021, with more than 7,000 ballots cast in the first week thus far.

Butler County Board of Election reports 2,562 ballots cast in-person early and 4,347 ballots cast absentee, which is up substantially from 985 in-person ballots cast and 2,830 ballots cast absentee during the first week in 2021.

Finally, Clermont County's Board of Elections reported 1,501 ballots cast in person for early in-person for the first week of voting compared to just 202 ballots in 2021. A reported 1,746 ballots were cast by mail during the first week of early voting compared to 960 ballots in 2021.

WLWT spoke to the Hamilton County Board of Election about why it's seeing such a big boost in Ohio for early voting ahead of Election Day.

"I think everybody has an opinion on the issues that are on the ballot," Hamilton County Board of Elections Deputy Director Alex Linser said. The November ballot in Ohio features state-wide issues on abortion and marijuana. "They have strong opinions. And so when you have the, you know, there's big issues that are on the ballot with people having very passionate views on either side. It just it ups the energy, and more people want to come out and make their voice heard."

Early voting in Ohio ends Nov. 5. Mailed-in ballots must be postmarked in Ohio by Nov. 6.

Which I imagine is good news, since Republicans don't vote early because it's a socialist conspiracy.

Democrats in Ohio basically had their shit handed to them for a decade straight. Things starting to go well for them is pretty good proof for how badly the GOP fucked themselves over.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

It turns out that scaring the fuck out of the general populace by your far right, fascist rhetoric drives record numbers of people to vote against you.

Who'd thunk it?

The GOP voluntarily made abortion a top issue for every election going forward.

We'll see what happens, but early ballots usually favor Democrats and progressive issues.

He means there are no candidates up for election. There's no people on the ballot. Just laws. In particular, there's one about recreational marijuana and one about abortion.

And this is why I am not too concerned about the presidential election next year. So many people who have never participated in voting are doing so because now they understand how quickly their rights can be taken from them.

And we all need to do our parts in voting the insane far right out of office. This country is better off without Republican scumbags ruining things for everyone.

Republican Party definitely needs to die if America is to survive pass the current century we're in. It just cannot survive into the 2100s with them as a major Political party.

Every turnout since Trump got in office seems to be far less red than it historically should have been. I hope people keep showing up because I know I will.

Gen Z helped save our bacon during the 2022 midterms. Let's hope they do it again in 2024.

rofl no

Gen Z saves nothing and consumes everything

In Ohio specifically the august issue 1 pissed off voters from all ages and all counties in Ohio. It was a lowball POS thing to do and it will cost Ohio GOP dearly for years to come
