The owner of the pitbull claims, in the article, that his pitbull is also a service animal.

Interesting... so a service animal, which is specifically trained to NOT be aggressive and violent suddenly tries to eat another dog.

Service dog training should have easily removed 200 years of breeding. The trainer should be held responsible.

Good thing it was on a leash / chain or I would probably be hurting from stitches today and that dog would be put down.

Also the pitbull owner was bullshitting. No way are dogs as unstable as pits are allowed to be service dogs.

I'm willing to bet that one of them was a service dog and one of them was a "service dog" where the owner just says that so they can take their dog wherever they want. You can't just declare your dog as a service dog. There are certifications and stuff that have to happen.

You can't demand paperwork, but iirc legal service animals do have certain requirements they have to meet while serving in that capacity, such as having an official service animal vest.

They can be, but in terms of bare minimum requirements the odds of someone with a fake service animal actually bothering to get a vest and train the dog to wear it regularly are pretty low in the grand scheme of things.

EDIT: Turns out they don't have to wear a vest, and it's also illegal to ask for paperwork:

You may ask:

• Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability?
• What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?

You are not allowed to:

• Request any documentation that the dog is registered, licensed, or certified as a service animal
• Require that the dog demonstrate its task, or inquire about the nature of the persons disability

Because service animals are not required to wear vests, a dog that is wearing a vest is not necessarily a service animal. The dog still needs to be trained to perform a task for a person with a disability to be a service animal.

I was told once you could just pay a fee to get a animal registered as a emotional support animal. Brother was looking into it to see if he could bypass his apartments no pet rule.

Emotional support animals are a lower category of service animal with different requirements but also different rules around what businesses are legally required to allow:

It does not matter if a person has a note from a doctor that states that the person has a disability and needs to have the animal for emotional support. A doctors letter does not turn an animal into a service animal.

I bet that service dog was packing a rifle and the Pitt saved the entire restaurant by sniffing it out and eliminating the threat moments before the service dog was going to start unloading at all the patrons.

Years ago the people renting the house next door had a pit bull tied up in their back yard. I think it was a mix because it was huge, but looked straight up pit. I got out of my car one day and it was loose. It started walking towards me slowly in my driveway with its head low, growling and showing teeth.

I tried not to make eye contact and casually walked to the front door. But that shit was terrifying. I think if I panicked it would have pounced.

I don't know how long you've been alive, but Pitbulls attacking people and animals have been a thing for decades. There's a pitbull news topic once a week here.

If someone had to post every pitbull attack as a topic on CE, how much work would that be? Would a full 40 hours a week even be enough?

Never mind, it's a lot more than just 4. If you continue on to page two there's several more reports from just the past day.

In the last 2 days, a Rottweiler mauled a child in China and a woman was killed by her German Sheperd. But no one made a topic about those attacks. Users here only care about dog attacks when they involve Pitbulls.

There are four of us posting Pitbull awareness topics and we STILL can't keep up. Next time you see a Rotty or Sherpherd attack somebody post a topic about it.

Honestly, dogs don't belong in restaurants.
All the food smells must drive them nuts.
Enjoying a meal while they just sit there is borderline animal cruelty.
