I feel like a lot of fads either evolve into something else, or kind of fade away. but scene kids kind of disappeared out of nowhere.

I'm not complaining, just wondering. It seemed like everyone and their mother had some semblance of "scene" fashion when I was in highschool, but BAM! out of nowhere it was gone for good. Every other fad had stragglers for a few years who were hanging on to the past, but it's obscene that scene got left in the dust.
And what's worse, is that it's all like some weird fever dream....like, were there really teenagers running around with big, leopard print hair? yes, there was. but whenever I ask someone at work or wherever who is around my age, "hey, remember scene kids? whatever happened to them?" they'll act dumbfounded as if I'm making up the fad that defined my generation.

and on that note, what happened to big obnoxious skate shoes and those stupid flat billed caps with sesame street characters on them? those were weirdly popular at my high school to the point that I thought it was an incredibly elaborate joke, but nobody remembers those either, even if I show someone a picture of them wearing that outfit 10-15ish years ago, they'll deny it and say its a photoshop or AI image.
am I crazy or am I getting mandala affected?

I did the scene shit for awhile and yeah I've noticed a lot of people don't seem to remember it.

I had a flat brimmed green hat with the 1 up mushroom on it. Believe it said get a life.

Wore brightly colored shirts and skinny jeans. Even had red skinny jeans. Like Crayola red

It was a stark contrast to all the years I had been goth.

But so was my life. I was a loner as a goth. Would only keep like one friend. As a scene kid I was partying like 3 or 4 days a week.

I still don't really know what the difference between emo and scene is. I also always hated the name "scene" because it sounds like something missing an adjective lmao. Like the word "scene" is already used to describe subcultures, i.e. "skater scene", "punk scene"... so does that make it a "scene scene"?

Scene kids looked like colorful emos to a degree. Emos in my expierence wore mostly black with maybe a little bit of red or white. Like I think some wore red ties.

Scene kids seemed like a derivative of the club kids of the 90s.

Don't get me started on the name. I don't know. I guess it just the scene cause it's what was in at the time

I think the over commercialization of alt subcultures killed them. Once it goes mainstream its not exactly alt anymore.
