People who are upset at just probation are missing the forest for the trees. You don't hit the low level drug traffickers when the kingpin is still available. The only people we are interested in seeing justice for are the people on top. Trump and his inner circle need to go down as harshly as possible. The lower level grunts testifying against the higher level ones is better for the prosecution, and also hides the prosecution's case better against Trump and his attorneys. I have no issues with this plea deal.
The defense will have access to basically all evidence the prosecution plans to use at trial, but otherwise this so hard. We want the kingpin, not the street pusher.

The defense already knows what Trump did. The prosecution also knowing doesn't help Trump any.

Yeah but it's understandably frustrating if you sat through e.g. the Mueller investigation for it to seem like a lot of people get off scot free only for them to not seal the deal.

bingo. it's a huge deal that trump doesn't get a preview of the case against him ahead of time. giving these two cretins a plea is well worth potentially getting trump locked up in state prison, which the minimum sentence would call for

So both Cheesebro and Powell have taken plea deals. The one for Powell is big because she was very close to Trump and part of his circle, she's promised to be honest in her answers for the prosecution regarding the case.

Theres no president for that.

Assuming you meant precedent, there's no precedent for anything until it happens for the first time. Using the fact that there's no precedent for something and that's why you can't do it now or can never do it would lead to no advancement or progress on anything.

Sometimes you just have to be brave enough to be the first, such as if anybody regarding Trump's trials is brave enough to have him locked up if he violates their gag orders.

And as our Christo-fascist controlled Supreme Court showed us, precedent doesn't mean anything at all and has 0 value beyond what we assign to it.

We can safely surmise that the Georgia prosecutor has the right intent here, to give these plea deals in exchange for cooperation that will strengthen the case against Trump and his inner circle. Whether it will actually result in a guilty verdict & any kind of substantial sentence for Trump is something we don't know yet.

The light sentences are probably also there to encourage as many guilty pleas as soon as possible. If they can get like 10 people to plead guilty before trial starts that's so much less work they have to do and much easier to pin Donald Trump.

I've heard both defense attorneys and former prosecutors talk about how it's very common in RICO cases with a lot of defendants to start dwindling them down with plea deals once they start flipping and cooperating. Also that it's a domino effect, and after the first one does it you'll see more because people realize they might be SOL.

So far it seems like their experience/expertise checks out.

Same for me. I follow a handful of people in the legal field in social media and have been listening to what they've said about these cases. So far they've been pretty accurate.

It wouldn't be a new law, it would be a ruling on the interpretation of the Constitution. There's already wording in the Cons. that prevents people from ever holding public office, one of those qualifiers is insurrection against the U.S.

Fourteenth Amendment Equal Protection and Other Rights
  • Section 3 Disqualification from Holding Office
  • No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

We've never had a POTUS do what Trump has done so that's why there's no precedent for it. The problem is people like you want President's to be treated like kings above reproach.

Well not out of thin air with a decree based off of nothing, no. But if a case is brought to them with no direct existing precedent saying otherwise(or sometimes even with it saying otherwise depending on the body)... Actually, they kind of can and do. It's kind of how some rulings go. Now, the ruling can be overturned, but that's what Case Law and Judge's Law is, no?

Based off what I've learned I think it's just because most people don't understand RICO cases like the legal world does. Since it's Trump I'm sure it's the most attentive most people have been to such a case.

Yeah, actual law experts and practicing lawyers were explaining to people that in a case like this, defendants will be pleading out before getting to trial. More pleas coming together the closer to a trial date is, in fact. Like someone mentioned earlier, that may have been Cheesys game plan. Ask for a speedy trial to get the ball rolling, see what they have on me then cop a quick and early plea.

Newsmax finally had a spot about Powell I caught this morning, the lightest coverage as you can expect with bullshit lawyers ignoring context propping up the scenario that "she got the lightest punishment because she didn't do anything wrong and when she testifies she'll tell the truth because she's just so darn innocent!" Absolutely bonkers. And of course her and Cheesy are hidden on Brietbart's front page, so the articles are almost devoid of batshit conspiracy comments.
