The short-term fix is if you refresh the page and then hit stop pretty quickly you can then play the video and the blocker won't appear.

The more permanent fix is to use privacy badger and follow this guide:
https://www.reddit.com/r/youtube/comments/176ludf/permanent_fix_for_youtube_ads_adblocker/

Supposedly brave browser also works but I can't confirm.

There is no "permanent fix" because Youtube is actively updating every time the adblockers update.

Apparently privacy badger blocks the process that even determines if you have an ad-blocker on from the client side. That's why the reddit thread mentions the only way Google could possibly get around it is by reading client side data that would violate privacy laws.

Or you run ads from the same video stream code as the video itself, so your browser cant tell the difference between an ad and the video.

Enlighten me. You're using a free service, likely for hours at a time. If you think a 15-second ad or a skippable 30-second ad every now and then isn't worth the value you get from the service then quit using it. Not gonna do that though.

"Shilling for corporations"? Top neckbeard take there. You the same guy on the Xbox board who said he'd throw his controller through the TV if he saw a fullscreen ad that you press A to get rid of? Your types bleed together, sorry.

The nothing to hide fallacy people use to excuse anti-privacy measures has aged like milk, at least in the US. Being gay or trans and seeking confidential advice (because your parents are homophobic fucks) isnt illegal, but that getting out can pose a very real threat to your safety.

Google makes enough money selling my data and dodging taxes. Plus, ads are a security risk and blocking them is a basic cybersecurity move that even IT professionals themselves do. Plus VPNs.

And Ive never been to the Xbox board, so

If YouTube would guarantee me that their ads would cap at like, 1 or 2 minutes per video I'd be fine tbh.

But when I started getting 45-minute videos as "ads" and had to repeatedly change tabs to skip them I finally had enough.

Maybe they got rid of them, it's been years. But I'm not going to put in the effort to find out until I'm literally out of options at this point lol

They haven't. Even just Ads for 40 second shorts range from 5-15 seconds. You could consume 40 seconds of content 45% of it is ads.

I have never once seen an ad longer than 30 seconds that wasn't skippable. I get a 2 minute+ movie trailer every now and then and it's always skippable. Only got a 30+ minute ad once ever and it was skippable.

I don't know what else to tell you lol. I've literally gotten ads that ranged from 40 minutes to over an hour.

The "hoops" I described were just tabbing over to it to hit the "skip" button since I like to run YouTube in the background. If the ads were if reasonable length I wouldn't bother to skip and just let them play.

But again, this happened a few years ago so it's possible they cracked down on those. In any event, it happened enough to me that it incited me to get uBlock and not look back. >_>

Of all the websites that might deserve your money (original journalism and Wikipedia come to mind), YouTube is one of the least.

It originates no content. Every reason to watch YouTube is provided to YouTube for absolutely free. (Imagine that working in other industries, creative or otherwise). They then monetize that content by scraping and selling your data, and showing ads to the majority of viewers.

It's a very, very sweet deal for them in every possible way. They don't even have the legal responsibilities of a publisher.

Do I blame them for trying to stop adblocking? No not really, it's inevitable that they will do so. Do I think it's fucking idiotic to try and shame people for using adblockers? Very much so. They are a completely legal tool, so there is no argument for 'theft' or 'piracy', which are both against the law.

As long as I have the means, I will control what I see on my devices, and the billion dollar corporations will just have to get by as best they can without me.

Im running windows and I am already using Brave browser.

YT rolls out changes slowly. I'm laughing at the ppl who think they just have to close the "ad blocks are not allowed" window. They'll shut you down too within weeks.

The short term fix was to sign out of google on this browser.

Edit: the only reason YT exists is b/c they quashed the competetion by allowing piracy in the early days. They already sell all our data. YT doesn't even make the content on YT. Google/Alphabet is already super rich, dodge taxes, sell my data. They can get fucked.
