The worse your depression gets, the more detached you become from your life and surroundings. Things like cleaning and looking after yourself become an afterthought. I've never let get this bad, but as my depression has gotten worse, I find that extended periods of time just fly by before I get around to doing simple things like cleaning or organizing.
